When I click on exit from the right click menu on the tray icon, it leaves everything running in task manager but removes the tray icon. I have to go into task manager and end the BoinC process and tray icon process.

I am running Windows 7 x64, i7 960, x58 mobo, and a GTX 970 on 347.88 drivers. Boinc version 7.4.36 x64. I have uninstalled and re-installed to no avail.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

BOINC consists of two programs - a Manager and a Worker. The tray icon represents the Manager. When you choose exit from the tray icon, the Manager will always shut down, but it's optional whether the worker shuts down as well.

To change the behaviour to what you want, open the Manager and

1) From the Tools menu, select Options and check the lower box, 'Enable Manager exit dialog'.

2) From the File menu, select 'Exit BOINC Manager'. In the exit confirmation dialog that shows up, check both options.

BOINC manager - Tools - Options - General options - check Show Manager exit dialog? - OK.
Next time you now do File - Exit, check 'stop running tasks on exiting the Manager' (or similar wording) and do not check the option to do this silently from now on, so that you always get the exit dialog reminding you that you can exit either only the manager, or both processes.

(I see Richard and I wake up at the same time, but I doubt he's doing everything from memory and typing this on his phone. :))

Excellent fellas. Thank you to both of you. It's strange that I should have to do that. I would think that BOINC would do that automatically and not require input from me to make it ask me if I want to stop everything or just the manager.

I am going with Richards suggestion of stopping processes silently. I don't like dealing with dialog boxes, and I can always make it come back. I don't know why you would want to exit the manager and not stop the processes. THat's what controls everything. Hell I don't know why it's not just one program so when you exit, it all stops at once, but I didn't design it and don't know how to fix it, so therefore, I guess I don't get input.

I appreciate the responses guys. Have a great weekend.

Some of us don't use the BOINC Manager to control our processes; there are alternate programs that can offer additional functionality that the BOINC Manager doesn't give. For example, on my main desktop I use BoincTasks to manage not only the tasks on the one computer, but all computers on my network simultaneously.
