336	replace heartbeat mechanism	davea	davea	Problem with the heartbeat mechanism:\r\nif the client does something that blocks for > 30 secs\r\n(e.g. a synchronous DNS lookup, a disk-space scan, a debugger break)\r\nthen all apps quit, producing confusing messages and possibly\r\nwasting CPU time.\r\n\r\nProposed solution: remove heartbeat mechanism.\r\nInclude client process ID in the app_init_data file.\r\nThe API periodically sees if that process is still alive,\r\nand exits if not.
