Description

version 4.26

Posted by: chriss Date: 3:40 PM 03-13-2005 How about a Windows installer option to only install the BOINC Manager?

Useful for systems on which you don't particularly want to run BOINC, but want to remotely manage your other instances on the LAN.

Thanks

Closing.

The setup model we are going with tries to reduce complexity by reducing the number of decisions a person is forced to make during install.

I, for one, don't agree with the closing of this ticket.

I understand that you want to make the installer as simple as possible, so there are a number of options.

1. Have "Basic" and "Advanced" install options. On "Advanced" allow the usermore control, like installing only the manager or client. 2. Have one of the steps allow the user to choose the parts to install. By default, have both selected and put (Recommended) on each of the options. 3. Create a seperate installer that contains just the manager.

I am one of many people I know who run Boinc on a lot of computers. I would like to use my Windows GUI to manage all of my Linux boxes on a few different networks. One example, I have a Windows virtual machine I would like to use to manage the BOINC client running on its NON GUI host. That's just one of my setups that would be a prime candidate for this.

I really hope this is given more consideration.

Thanks,
