7:15 PM UTC, July 14 2006

The BBC Climate Change Project restarted several times, after completing around 20% each time, with no perceptible cause or error; I therefore lost interest with the BOINC project for some time, assuming that the underlying framework was flawed (a single poorly implemented project has a huge negative perceptive impact upon BOINC; check the BBC ClimatePrediction area for confirmation of their poor planning).

8:49 PM UTC, October 11 2006
Quite simple, I loved the old-fashioned statistics that let me compare what I did to others from my country or from all over the world. That was one of the main incentives for me to run Seti. Since you've replaced it with BOINC, all of this is gone, and there's no incentive for me to use it any more. I've plenty of available computer power, but won't take the time to run it unless I have a perception of getting something I find interesting in return.
8:57 PM UTC, October 11 2006
I didn't like how the software was layed out. I liked the old software better.
9:10 PM UTC, October 11 2006

11:34 PM UTC, October 11 2006

11:40 PM UTC, October 11 2006
YOU STRAYED FROM THE BEST INTERFACE...THE ORIGINAL!!!
11:51 PM UTC, October 11 2006
The software is terrible
11:53 PM UTC, October 11 2006
My computer was running slow. I eliminated all unnecessary processes.
11:55 PM UTC, October 11 2006
I love the Seti project and would continue to do it for the rest of my life, but frankly when you switched to the new BOINC software, I switched right to it, it had nothing but issues on every computer I installed it on and it would sit most of the time not able to process because it just stops for no apparent reason so I went back to the old seti@home software. I continued to use that up until the very last day then went back to the BOINC software (the latest version downloaded from your site I might add) and the same issues. It spent a vast majority of the time doing nothing, and I noticed it had communication problems getting work units back from your server along with a rash of other problems with every system it ran on and I had 11 systems with various different software running it, and some systems all that was on them was windows XP professional and seti, they were dedicated machines just for seti. You need to get rid of that software and have a dedicated package. I have no interest in processing for any other cause, just Seti. Provide me with a means to do it, and you got me back 24 hours a day 7 days a week with 11 machines all over 3ghz in speed.
11:57 PM UTC, October 11 2006
And you didn't transfer my old account units. Years of work lost.
12:04 AM UTC, October 12 2006
security issues , used up too many resources , piece of shit compared to seti classic
12:05 AM UTC, October 12 2006

12:10 AM UTC, October 12 2006

12:13 AM UTC, October 12 2006

12:17 AM UTC, October 12 2006
like the old system better
12:20 AM UTC, October 12 2006

12:41 AM UTC, October 12 2006

12:54 AM UTC, October 12 2006

1:04 AM UTC, October 12 2006
having one setup across machines meant that I had to configure it for the oldest and slowest machine, just an asinine setup
1:06 AM UTC, October 12 2006

1:13 AM UTC, October 12 2006

1:22 AM UTC, October 12 2006
BOINC SUCKS - bad interface, original SETI clean/simple
1:29 AM UTC, October 12 2006
You guys screwed my on my seti results I was ROCKING top 500 to 600 and climbing.. you switched toboinc and dropped ALOT of my results! Screw it! If you are going to be SETI@HOME then damn it stay SETI!!!
1:32 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I THOUGHT it caused computer problems with my backup program
1:44 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I liked running the text version of Seti
1:45 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I pumped out WUs for Seti for close to 5 years. The toll it took on my hard-drives eventually led me to decide to hang it up.
1:46 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I was having a lot of trouble getting work units
1:52 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I didn't enjoy the results tracking as I previously did the SETI classic version
2:00 AM UTC, October 12 2006
damn thing was up and down all the time, which was troublesome because i used the computer to heat my room.....
2:03 AM UTC, October 12 2006
work would often not download
2:18 AM UTC, October 12 2006
no results, stats on progress lacking
2:19 AM UTC, October 12 2006
old interface was easy and i could run it on servers. self contained exe. now its a windows program. cant do that. please give us command line back
2:19 AM UTC, October 12 2006
seti@home before BOINC was fun, with BOINC it was just crap
2:26 AM UTC, October 12 2006
boinc didn't make me feel as safe as the older client.
2:51 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It worked the CPU hard and made the fan run all the time...too much heat and noise
2:52 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I preferred the older format
2:59 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I thought it had been shutdown for good. I contributed 175,025 units by that time
3:00 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Contribution to global warming from the millions of CPUs running BOINC and other distributed software. A supercomputer built from highly efficient multicore processors would be better, if you could secure sponsorship of this sort.
3:01 AM UTC, October 12 2006
greenhouse gases created by these projects is just not worth the end result
3:02 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It cooks my PC during the summer
3:03 AM UTC, October 12 2006
You could keep your receiving computers online to receive my data
3:05 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It stopped working, wouldnt attach to a project anymore, and I couldnt get it to operate again.
3:05 AM UTC, October 12 2006
CPU Temp was too high
3:07 AM UTC, October 12 2006
all my computers
3:19 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It does not work on most of my computers. They are not on the net, and took part in Seti@Home1 through SetiQueue. There is no setiqueue for boinc so I had to switch to a non-BOINC project :-(
3:26 AM UTC, October 12 2006
problems getting work units
3:32 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I hated the software
3:35 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It consumed cpu and you left out all the flashy/fun ideas that werre in the original seti@home; I switched back to the original for a while, but then you stopped even that - I hated BOINC and won't go back to it. If you reintroduce the original, then I would do it again. I was very active with many computers using it.
3:46 AM UTC, October 12 2006
hasn't produced anything worthwhile
3:50 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I preferred the old SETI setup and enjoyed seeing my position improve within my group as I returned more units to SETI.
3:53 AM UTC, October 12 2006
work units are too large
3:57 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I hate the software and the fact that my previous contributions were cast aside.
4:03 AM UTC, October 12 2006
the old seti program was easier to use
4:07 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It overloads my PC; you need to fix it so that the amount of resources can be controlled.
4:12 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Because it's too heavy and annoying to have running - the old cmd-line based tool was much better - also viewing results was better then
4:15 AM UTC, October 12 2006
SETI seemed to get bogged down
4:30 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Boinc system unreliable. Constantly had downtimes
4:30 AM UTC, October 12 2006
lab internet security and keeping units running was a mental bother. they would stop running for various reasons and it was just something else to worry about.
4:46 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I didnt like it, I like the Old Seti@home program better
4:52 AM UTC, October 12 2006
ich es auf meinem neuen Rechner vergessen habe zu installieren
4:54 AM UTC, October 12 2006
my new CPU is overclocked too much, 100% cpu use makes it too hot to run all the time.
4:54 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I preferred the stand-alone client
4:59 AM UTC, October 12 2006
The only machine I access needs to sleep :(
5:01 AM UTC, October 12 2006
folding at home
5:05 AM UTC, October 12 2006
setup and use was too user intensive versus the old seti
5:06 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It's too complicated, too resorce intensive, not user friendly, and just plain stupid in comparision to the pre boinc version. I ran the command line version for years and loved it. I just want it to run and forget about it. I could never get it install right in the first place. I had to set myself up[ as a server but couldn't connect. I love the seti program, i really do, but I just refuse to use this shitty software. That and it doesnt carry over my old workunits.
5:11 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It did not provide enough clear indication of its progress, its resource use, and the success or failure of each "work unit", especially relating to the BBC Climate project
5:20 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Had a HD crash and didn't load it on the new computer.
5:26 AM UTC, October 12 2006
"громоздкий" клиент на базе BONIC
5:45 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I don't like the extra overhead, and the project linkage is problematic.
5:47 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I did not like the BOINC interface or the replacement to the old, straightforward SETI screensaver.
5:48 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I don't remember why, but BOINC was the reason I gave up on SETI. Something didn't work the same, or I couldn't figure it out. Whatever...HATED IT.
5:49 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Switch computer and did not reload yet
5:54 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I didn't enjoy the interface. I liked the old SETI program much better, more entertaining to participate in.
5:55 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I got sent to Iraq.
5:58 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It takes up too much hard drive and memory space compared to Seti@home
6:00 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Notebook Lüfter fahren zu hoch erzeugen mächtig Geräusche
6:03 AM UTC, October 12 2006
setiathome.exe was small and smart, did run in background on win and linux. BOINC is too heavy, to complicated (in comparison to seti)
6:05 AM UTC, October 12 2006
it sucks
6:11 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Bad project support for AMD64
6:14 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I did not like the program and I did not get credit for all the units I already had
6:16 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Was not turning itself off when I was doing other things and I needed the resources
6:19 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Original S@h client stopped taking WUs, didn't know how to run BOINC
6:20 AM UTC, October 12 2006
too high system demands
6:26 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It has some problems starting to work o unit
6:38 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I just want to participate in seti@home and after about 6 months of using BOINC I grew fed up because of the overhead.
6:40 AM UTC, October 12 2006
world community grid project
6:43 AM UTC, October 12 2006
es nach wie vor nur je ein Paket abholt und nicht mehrere was bei serverausfällen auf Seti Seite dazu führt das mein rechner nutzlos rumsteht
6:49 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I didn't like the BOINC interface or the way it counted workunits completed.
6:53 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I didnt like the new interface and had trouble getting new work loads from the server.
6:58 AM UTC, October 12 2006
distributed.net
7:01 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Change in personal circumstances!
7:08 AM UTC, October 12 2006
something happened to your severs and for 2 weeks, i couldn't upload/download new projects.
7:09 AM UTC, October 12 2006
vor längerer Zeit per eMail das Ende des Seti Projektes mitgeteilt wurde
7:12 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Software seemed unreliable
7:18 AM UTC, October 12 2006
PC can't complete a WU until after the deadline's passed.
7:24 AM UTC, October 12 2006
too intrusive
i prefer old seti@home software
7:35 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Frequent hardware reconfiguration
7:37 AM UTC, October 12 2006
used too many resources / processing power
7:41 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Emigrated, PC is onroute.
7:41 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Loss of console only clients
7:42 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I joined two projects and the other (Predictor at Home) seems to have higher priority, being preemptive in relation with Seti!!!
7:48 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It can't be used for non-networked computers
7:59 AM UTC, October 12 2006
my computer overheated
8:02 AM UTC, October 12 2006
not user friendly, unclear
8:04 AM UTC, October 12 2006
The fun competitiveness disappeared... The original SETI application let you see how you were doing compared to others . this was fun and made me see how many PC I could get to run SETI to advance in the statistics.
8:04 AM UTC, October 12 2006
if units take to long i dont get credit for doing them
8:04 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It made my computer overheat. Nice job, guys.
8:05 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I liked the previous client better
8:06 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Too complex and bloated, the classic single binary that ran in silently in the background was better
8:06 AM UTC, October 12 2006
The old CETI@home was better
8:06 AM UTC, October 12 2006
neuinstallation
8:16 AM UTC, October 12 2006
you loose touch with the project
8:18 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Caused instability in too many other programs
8:22 AM UTC, October 12 2006
and I tried the BBC weather - but NOINC is the problem
8:23 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Compared to the original SETI application I hate BOINC
8:24 AM UTC, October 12 2006
it had been hot days at my house, and waiting to colder days.
8:24 AM UTC, October 12 2006
After years (since 1999) and many hundreds (approx 3500?) of result submissions, I quit because: 1) BOINC took too much control over my computer and didn't let me be in charge AND 2) I felt that I was being "used" and taken for granted by the Seti@home organization/staff, who never once answered my legitimate e-mail. I might consider resuming again, but it would require personal communication from Seti@home.
8:26 AM UTC, October 12 2006
worried about environmental issues
8:35 AM UTC, October 12 2006
es nicht mehr möglich war die Suche (SETI) offline durchzuführen.
8:36 AM UTC, October 12 2006
it was awkward to run on multiple Pc's
8:38 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Became bloatware vs the old version
8:40 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Updating it was complex and prone to inexplicable errors. Whoever maintaining it wasn't doing the project any favours.
8:43 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Computer wurde neu aufgesetzt
8:56 AM UTC, October 12 2006
SETI would not run
9:07 AM UTC, October 12 2006
the previous seti@home client was better
9:09 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Poor interface and graphics
9:22 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I got fedup and didn't have the time to manually update/configure the client software - I prefer the install once and forget its there type installation
9:25 AM UTC, October 12 2006
climate prediction
users of machines on which I was running BOINC complained about CPU activity
9:56 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I installed a later version and it wouldn't work
10:10 AM UTC, October 12 2006
no credit for previous SETI-at-home work, despite promises to the contrary. This was dishonest.
10:14 AM UTC, October 12 2006
the client does'nt work good
10:17 AM UTC, October 12 2006
The software was substandard and stupid
10:32 AM UTC, October 12 2006
folding@home
10:44 AM UTC, October 12 2006
wasn't convinced that "drug" projects were not just profitable to companies.
10:51 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I ran the command line version - and you stopped accepting these. I managed around 10000 units on the old version.
10:54 AM UTC, October 12 2006
the screen saver was so ugly
10:54 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Pain in the ass
11:00 AM UTC, October 12 2006
It wasn't reconnecting by itself to download new data and wasn't starting by itself like the old program and it was crashing also. It looked cheap and too complicated.
11:02 AM UTC, October 12 2006
switched to laptop
11:08 AM UTC, October 12 2006
switched to Rosetta@home
11:09 AM UTC, October 12 2006
it cant work from behind the proxy :((
11:09 AM UTC, October 12 2006
it does not run on AIX
11:11 AM UTC, October 12 2006
i only have a laptop now and i like it to be cool and quiet
11:14 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I use the server, and the only client possible is the command line and with boinc switch this client CMD don't exist...
11:21 AM UTC, October 12 2006
didn't like the boinc garbage-preferred the original command line tool-think the move was a mistake
11:22 AM UTC, October 12 2006
didn't like the boinc garbage-preferred the original command line tool-think the move was a mistake
11:30 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I dont usually run it in summer because my room is cooler without it running, also when I stop I forget to restart
11:30 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Decided to complete the old SETI and not to participate in similar projects. Main reason electricity, I'm a still a student and sometimes have money problems.
11:32 AM UTC, October 12 2006
it wont connect properly and it crashes on of my computers
11:36 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Could not figure out how to run multiple projects at once
11:36 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Used a command line alternative that stopped working after project completely moved over to boinc.
11:37 AM UTC, October 12 2006
soll als windows-service laufen
11:38 AM UTC, October 12 2006
too high memory usage
11:40 AM UTC, October 12 2006
truly crappy interface - the old seti was fine
11:46 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I switched to using laptops and Seti used too much memory.
11:47 AM UTC, October 12 2006
The PC was replaced
11:47 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Difficulty in deploying via group policy
11:47 AM UTC, October 12 2006
had difficult transferring my credits and starting a project.
11:48 AM UTC, October 12 2006
computer ran too hot and constant fan operation was too loud
11:48 AM UTC, October 12 2006
ich eien neuen Rechner bekommen habe
11:51 AM UTC, October 12 2006
I could not compare my personal progress against others
11:52 AM UTC, October 12 2006
moved jobs
11:54 AM UTC, October 12 2006
Forgot to reinstall after rebuild
11:54 AM UTC, October 12 2006
there didnt seem to be any workunits for a long time from the servers
11:57 AM UTC, October 12 2006
The old seti user interface/system was better
11:58 AM UTC, October 12 2006
and I had to reformat my HD
12:00 PM UTC, October 12 2006
didn't like it compared to command line version from before. I was also concerned about security.
12:07 PM UTC, October 12 2006
There is now a deadline for submission of data and I'm usually past the deadline, so I just gave up.
12:08 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I don't like the stats, I prefer the old method
12:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
made my computer run too slow
12:14 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I didn't like the scteen saver. I liked the comand line client better.
12:18 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Kurzzeitfortschritt wurde in damaliger Version nicht gespeichert (d.h. z.B. 30 Min. gelaufen, aber Software speicherte nur jede Std. --> Fortschritt verloren)
12:24 PM UTC, October 12 2006
and had project problems
12:28 PM UTC, October 12 2006
BOINC pointsystem SUCKS!!
12:28 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I only use a laptop these days and I don't have any downtime on the computer.
12:28 PM UTC, October 12 2006
changed versions of OS, didn't reinstall
12:30 PM UTC, October 12 2006
PC寿命が縮むため
12:30 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I hated the interface
12:30 PM UTC, October 12 2006
the old seti@home application was better
12:30 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It would not connect, several times, then it crashed, old seti client worked perfect
12:36 PM UTC, October 12 2006
overly complicated- old client much easier to use and more visually appealing
12:38 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I did not like the software
12:40 PM UTC, October 12 2006
After running for a short time, it totally locks up my PC. No interaction is possible and a powerdown and restart is needed
12:40 PM UTC, October 12 2006
There isn't an iSeries client
12:41 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Having the cpu running 100% means the fan runs at full speed all the time which is too noisy.
12:45 PM UTC, October 12 2006
es zu wartungsintensiv war
12:49 PM UTC, October 12 2006
United Devices
12:50 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Program didn't work. Couldn't upload units.
12:52 PM UTC, October 12 2006
could not configure to run on my computer. Port problem>?
12:57 PM UTC, October 12 2006
boinc is simply too much of a hastle. Just give me a simple command line program any day for this kind of stuff.
12:58 PM UTC, October 12 2006
NOT user-friendly like the original project. The original project was FUN. BONIC is a bother.
1:00 PM UTC, October 12 2006
After 4 weeks, it showed almost NO progress compared with traditional SETI@Home
1:01 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it crashed
1:04 PM UTC, October 12 2006
This is a typical example of fixing something that was not broken. Now it is unusable by many.
1:06 PM UTC, October 12 2006
don't like the new program. wanted to keep the old one.
1:07 PM UTC, October 12 2006
BOINC defeats me. Won't connect half the time
1:10 PM UTC, October 12 2006
BOINC would not make timely connections to SETI
1:11 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I was frustrated with BOINC, because I couldn't stop and stop it easily
1:11 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it was too annoying. prefered the old quick running software used previously
1:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
the system requirements. I was able to use older, tired machines to do the Seti and use UNIX.
1:14 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I couldn't remotely install it on other computers.
1:15 PM UTC, October 12 2006
didn't transfer my units
1:17 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It's not supported on Apple Computers!!!
1:18 PM UTC, October 12 2006
No workunits arrived
1:19 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It conflicted with other applications, causing applications to lock up & my Toshiba laptop to crash.
1:19 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Old SETI client was better, this doesn't even look like I'm running for SETI anymore.
1:22 PM UTC, October 12 2006
the original seti software was straighforward, boinc does more stuff, but all I want to do is SETI!
1:31 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Was traveling, someone else was using my computer.
1:32 PM UTC, October 12 2006
weil das projekt meine vorherigen credits verworfen hat
1:32 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Used up way too much of my processing. BRING BACK A DOS CLIENT
1:33 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Buffer overrun detected error message propmted me to stop using tha app becasue i could not get the problem corrected
1:33 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I CAN NOT GET IT TO RUN ON THIS COMPUTER. MY SON USE TO SET IT UP FOR ME BUT HE DIED IN A PLANE CRASH AND I MAY BE TO OLD TO SET IT UP MYSELF BUT I TRIED AND COULD NOT GET IT TO RUN. I USED THE QUESTION SECTION BUT I DID NOT RECONIZE THE ITEMS YOU WERE TALKING ABOUT. I TRIED TO CONTACT SOMEONE AT YOUR EMAIL BUT COULD NOT GET AHOLD OF A PERSON WHO COULD TELL ME HOW TO SET IT UP. I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE IT UP AND RUNNING ON MY COMPUTER SO IF YOU CAN HELP ME I SURE WOULD APPREATE IT.
1:34 PM UTC, October 12 2006
seti@home just worked!!!!
1:34 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it majorly slowed my computer and was hard to change options to get it to affect me less
1:39 PM UTC, October 12 2006
shaky software. Seti@home CMD was best
1:39 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The screen-saver prevents Timbuktu from working on my Mac. Have you fixed this?
1:42 PM UTC, October 12 2006
BOINC dosn't support netbsd (the old seti@home client did)
1:50 PM UTC, October 12 2006
lack of cool graphics, hard to tell if it was actually doing anything
1:50 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I couldn't configure BOINC to run only at night. I had the old version configured so that I would start and stop the service at certain times of the day. I can't do this with BOINC.
1:50 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Company Policy changed
1:54 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I use to use seti buffer to buffer projects. BOINC did not allow me to buffer more then 2-4 projects at a time. My computers dont have internet access all the time and with only 6-8 hours of work they went with no work for days. I am using CPDN because it runs for months with out internet connection.
1:56 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Way too much hassle to configure compared to the previous Seti version, just not going to spend that much time working out why it keeps breaking
2:00 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Screen Burn In
2:01 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Screen saver has issues with my Altdesk application
2:01 PM UTC, October 12 2006
consistent download problems, no way to control cpu usage, causes overheating, threadmaster doesn't work for crap
2:01 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It ran all the time solwing down other applications making my work take longer. If it ran as a screen saver only, I would be glad to use it!!!
2:01 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I ran the SETI@Home command-line application until it was phased out, but have not run BOINC more than briefly because there is no way to run it unless a user is logged-in
2:02 PM UTC, October 12 2006
re-installed o/s, but didnt re-install due to the hassle of registering each project, and my laptop would strain
2:05 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The program was not intuitive; it required more maintenance than what I would expect for a program running in the background.
2:06 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The old Seti at home was far better!
2:09 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Folding@Home
2:10 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I wanted to change to my own system.
2:12 PM UTC, October 12 2006
IT caused problems. When you return the old seto@home system i will reinstall on 12 platforms.
2:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I preferred the previous version of SETI@Home, before BOINC.
2:15 PM UTC, October 12 2006
United Devices Cancer Research
2:19 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I didn't like the BOINC software running on my computer all the time; the old SETI@Home software only ran as a software and was not active in the background
2:20 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Too busy at work.
2:24 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I don't like the BOINC application. Bring back the original.
2:27 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Ich traue der Sofware nicht
2:28 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Just didn't like it
2:30 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The old seti was a nice clean, easy to use app. Running under boinc introduces a layer of obfuscation and doesn't add anything to the goal of harvesting my CPU cycles. I appreciate all the neat gee-whiz statistics that are generated, but this came at the cost of such things as idling my computer while attempting to send or receive results. Personally, I believe the seti kernel code should be made available in two formats -- the old executable and the executable for boinc. Ah well, I will give boinc a go again, perhaps the issues have been resolved in the last year.
2:31 PM UTC, October 12 2006
BOINC is crappy software; the older software was way better.
2:39 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Couldn't attach to many projects; No cool statistics like the old SETI
2:41 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I liked the old SETI better.
2:43 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I didnt get recognition for previous work
2:44 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It did not have the appeal of the old SETI software
2:45 PM UTC, October 12 2006
CPDN
2:46 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Didn't like the new software, it slowed my pc down too much
2:48 PM UTC, October 12 2006
operation was not easily scripted to run from cron or at system startup (unix type systems)
2:50 PM UTC, October 12 2006
could not see progress of work units completed, preferred seti
2:54 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I didn't like it.
2:59 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I'm a long-standing member of BOINC and Seti@Home before that, but after installing a new mobo that didn't have a good ventilation system, my computer can no longer run BOINC without overheating. Until I solve this problem, I'm out of the game....
3:01 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Was too "in your face" compared to the old SETI client
3:02 PM UTC, October 12 2006
BOINC is way too much of a hassle. I liked the old approach: Simply place a binary in some directory, execute it and forget about. No GUI, no remote administration, no hassle.
3:04 PM UTC, October 12 2006
There was no page that told me how I was doing compared to others ..
3:05 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I prefer a single binary for each project I support
3:06 PM UTC, October 12 2006
i didnt like it as much as the old way.
3:06 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Intrusive, constantly requiring attention
3:07 PM UTC, October 12 2006
many lockups
3:08 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The work units were too large, i didn't feel like I was getting anywhere.
3:10 PM UTC, October 12 2006
your servers down too much
3:12 PM UTC, October 12 2006
changed positions, and computer admin rights are locked out. Old SETI didn't require admin rights for installation (at work)
3:12 PM UTC, October 12 2006
security concerns
3:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
boinc only operated about 3/4 of the time. the rest was used waiting to up or down load data. Infrequently it caused my computer to operate slowly.
3:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I hated the pc interface. Old one was much better.
3:17 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I switched to Einstein because SETI was always down, not sending work units, or having other computer or admin problims. Since switching to Einstein I have NEVER been down or lost work units and it seems to have a more realistic goal.
3:18 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It's been quite some time since I gave up on it so I don't remember all the probelms but among other things, I use software to instantly start my screensaver but BOINC STILL wouldn't start until after it waited the preset time for inactivity. If it was set to be the screensaver why didn't it work as one?!?! The original SETI@Home software ran when I wanted it to and only when I wanted it to. BOINC wasn't like that. :-(
3:20 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I got raped by a BOINC project and this was not deemed important by Berkeley
3:28 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It lost work done after shutting down Windows without shutting it first (still true?). I also liked the stats displayed on the classic version better. Also wondering why there has been NO apparent results after so many millions of hours of computing... how valid was the approach? Suggest regular communiques to keep up interest... Feel that it was taken for granted that people would donate machine time without a positive feedback loop.
3:31 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it sucked in general as well
3:32 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I like to see seti but with boinc the screensafer but earlier seti was better
3:33 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Had to reload windows and never re-downloaded SETI
3:36 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Poor credit system compared to old Seti@Home
3:39 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It stopped working and nothing I did would fix it, I want to try again. I will reload the client. I wasn't real happy with the interface, not very USER-friendly, maybe Scientist friendly, but not user-friendly...
3:39 PM UTC, October 12 2006
the screensaver worked badly
3:45 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The "screen saver" damaged my 17 inch CRT monitor
3:45 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Era muy impersonal
3:47 PM UTC, October 12 2006
CPU running at 100% - You provide no help to resolve the issue
3:48 PM UTC, October 12 2006
climateprediction
3:48 PM UTC, October 12 2006
i got tired of begging for a work unit
3:49 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I'd prefer a dirt-simple client; too much clicking to get projects suspended
3:58 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it took more effort to manage
3:59 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I did not like the boinc software I ran the command line version of seti originally and it was much better.
4:04 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Would not autostart, would not attach to projects reliably, general nuisance to run, when I tried to ask for help on your forums, I was answered by people who were condescending, insulting, and generally unpleasant
4:04 PM UTC, October 12 2006
inconsistently worked; wouldn't run all the timeas desired
4:07 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Beim Rechnen am Laptop Ergebnisse durch Offlinezeiten "verloren" habe
4:12 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I have been away from home for several months.
4:14 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I didn't like the feel of SETI after it switched to BOINC, lost most of the credits I'd built up after years of running SETI.
4:17 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Constant problems connecting to the Seti servers. The old software was better.
4:29 PM UTC, October 12 2006
the old program of setie was way easyer to use!!
4:30 PM UTC, October 12 2006
My computer had to be part of your network in order for it boinc to even run. bring back the old seti that ran without a connection then hooked up for the brief time it took to upload and download the next work unit.
4:35 PM UTC, October 12 2006
i am on dial up, due to that, downloading new units took too long/ same with uploading finished units
4:47 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Was when you was moving over to BOINC failed connections etc and always down.
4:49 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I hate it, much preferred the original Seti software
4:50 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I do not like it
4:51 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Aggrevated at not being able to get WUs from Chess960
4:54 PM UTC, October 12 2006
had problems running it on other computers
4:55 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It never ran properly
4:56 PM UTC, October 12 2006
updating client wasn't easy/automatic - server wasn't always available
4:57 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Cheating in stats made me mad
4:57 PM UTC, October 12 2006
didn't work as easy as old seti
4:58 PM UTC, October 12 2006
When first released, it literally made seti@home "unfun".
5:05 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Get rid of Boinc, it's poorly implemented
5:07 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I don't have the time to investigate these (BOINC) problems. Had no problem with original SETI@home.
5:12 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Not enough feedback from software.
5:12 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I was unable to log on to my account information and could not find a link to get help. I tried using the account key but it kept taking me back to the log-on page. The resulting merry-go-round simply frustrated me. This questionaire is the first thing that has given me any hope of contact with a real person.
5:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
i got confused when using seti and einstein simultaneously
5:15 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It sucked! It was inflexible.
5:27 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Bonic is over clocking my CPU and overheating the system
5:28 PM UTC, October 12 2006
mir BOINC suspekt ist und ich kein Interesse daran habe, meinen strom ggf für irgendwelche undurchschaubaren evtl sogar kommerziellen interessen zu verschwenden
5:33 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I did not like Boinc and will not use it.
5:33 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Lost fast internet connection
5:33 PM UTC, October 12 2006
couldn't keep track of my scores. when I had to upgrade, it was no longer fun to use.
5:34 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Folding@Home
5:34 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I MUCH prefered the old project.. and I was In the top 1% of the world.. and all that work didnt count towards the new seti project. I feel as if I lost all my standing PLUS.. the old screensaver was actually useful as I have used a spectrum analizer on RF radio repair.. the new screensaver is a " pretty toy" and is useless as an actual spectrum tool
5:38 PM UTC, October 12 2006
web tracking didn't show my pre-boinc work units
5:40 PM UTC, October 12 2006
das alte Seti war optisch schön und irgedwie cool. Boink ist HÄSSLICH und uncool!
5:41 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I did not receive credit for previoiusly submitted work.
5:41 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It would not run correctly, nowhere near as good as the Seti program. I couldn't get jobs or send results and after trying several times over several weeks I uninstalled it.
5:42 PM UTC, October 12 2006
too many projects that i didn't care of and too many options related to network security
5:42 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The BOINC interface is not as interesting as the old SETI interface and my students were not interested once you went to BOINC.
5:46 PM UTC, October 12 2006
A bit complicated, and my desktop machine blew up.
5:46 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Government does not allow this anymore. I'm a VA employee
5:52 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I just wanted to run setiathome and see my stats. But then that stopped. I stayed loyal, but felt the project let me down :(
5:56 PM UTC, October 12 2006
costs me around 50€ a year per CPU !
5:59 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The new program didn't look as cool
6:04 PM UTC, October 12 2006
That great homepage you guys had before isnt so great and fun anymore
6:09 PM UTC, October 12 2006
boinc was too flakey
6:09 PM UTC, October 12 2006
did not like the interface
6:09 PM UTC, October 12 2006
the computing broke down too many times - this did not ever happen on the "old" seti@home
6:10 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The lack of feed back was a real disincentive. I liked seeing how I was doing against everyone else on a daily basis. The price of power (you know running this 24x7 is not free) was not worth it.
6:11 PM UTC, October 12 2006
One of the advantages of the classic was a clearer image of my rank within the SETI Community.
6:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
when the switch was made from Seti@home we all lost all the credits from the years of work I did 24/7...I was in the top 1% of seti users and that just evaporated when the switch was made so I never ran the new version.
6:15 PM UTC, October 12 2006
the bonic program casue my computer crash at screen saver mode.
6:15 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I lost my thousands of previous unit
6:21 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It caused my computer to freeze and crash
6:24 PM UTC, October 12 2006
i liked the interface better before boinc.. much simpler and easier to use
6:28 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it consumes more processor capacity than expected
6:29 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Also, the BOINC software is a piece of crap.
6:30 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It never seemed to connect and it did not seem to provide any feedback like the old system.
6:31 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I ran dial-up at that time. BOINC was appears to be made for those using hi-speed, continous Internet conectivity.
6:33 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Slow computer
6:34 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I had to power off after hours due to security reasons
6:34 PM UTC, October 12 2006
BOINC slowed my computer down
6:40 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Ahora me pide tener internet a fuerzas cuando antes podia trabajar en casa y enviar datos en el cybercafe.
6:41 PM UTC, October 12 2006
BIONC ruined SETI... too complicated and irrelevant screens
6:47 PM UTC, October 12 2006
es zu viel persoenliche Informationen ins Internet geschickt hat, ausserdem zwischen den Projekten nur Mist gebaut hat
6:48 PM UTC, October 12 2006
In most ways it was a clear step backward from SETI@home classic in that the screen saver barly worked... if a all.
6:48 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Die Credits vom alten Seti@Home verfallen sind. Habe definitiv kein Interesse mehr.
6:49 PM UTC, October 12 2006
connectivity troubles switching from classic to boinc
7:01 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it didn't work right, too many server problems
7:04 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Because the seti@home switch to BIONIC lost old scores
7:06 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I was unable to retrieve my %ile standing
7:08 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Couldn't use it as a console application anymore
7:09 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Part of my interest (selfish as it is) was moving up the ranks, and I seemed to have reached a plateau. I'm going to start again because I do want to contribute to the results. You made me feel guilty with your recent appeal to start again :-)
7:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Rude staff running BOINC, BOINC not ready for transition, and servers always down. I also feel that I did not get proper credit for work done.
7:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Boss disapproved...
7:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Power supply went bad in my computer.
7:19 PM UTC, October 12 2006
BOINC was terrible. Didn't download any work units and caused nothing but problems. Get ride of it and I'll come back. Also it tried to setup other projects without asking me. Screw that.
7:24 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Einstein@home
7:24 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Idiotic graphics floundering about. (Seti)
7:31 PM UTC, October 12 2006
ran around in circles
7:33 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I didn't like the interface.
7:34 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Seti has sucked ever since you switch to Boinic
7:39 PM UTC, October 12 2006
i don`t have now own computer, sorry
7:42 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Boinc does not easily run logged out on Macs. Had to write unix scripts myself and they would occasionally freeze logins
7:46 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The old software before BOINC ran in the background without problems, the New BOINC would not work without having problems,ie no work, unable to connect, all the problems seemed to be at the other end, every other day there was news of something failing, back up systems being maintained, power outages, the list was endless, day after day, month after month. You ask the public for computing power which is ok when everything works.. when it keeps on failing because of endless different reasons the public very soon loose interest as I did.. I will reinstall the latest software and run it, if it continues to function without problems I will let it run..if I have to keep checking on it and find it is failing because of reasons beyond my control i will remove it for the final time.
7:50 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it started to work, but then stopped
7:52 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I preferred the feedback from the original SETI s/w
7:53 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Changed computers, forgot to reinstall
7:53 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I couldn't figure out how to use it
7:54 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I don't like stuff running in the foreground.
7:55 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Hard to configure, resource hog
7:58 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I miss the old screen saver... results are one thing... but the old screen saver/app was cool and it gave the appearance I was doing something "good' for mankind. BOINC it too hard, it's a hassle, and I don't get the screensaver......... Results aren't everything if you're not an astrophysisist........ bob_toth@stagingconnections.com
8:05 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It didn't work at all well with Windows Power Mgtmt
8:11 PM UTC, October 12 2006
hardware problems, need to replace motherboard
8:11 PM UTC, October 12 2006
the computer fan was on all the time
8:18 PM UTC, October 12 2006
caused a few issues with win XP_64bit edition
8:18 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It took too much CPU to run while I did other work and I don't want to leave my computer on at night anymore.
8:18 PM UTC, October 12 2006
ud agent
8:19 PM UTC, October 12 2006
the old version of seti is better
8:19 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The program accessed the internet at times not connected to the act of sending or receiving project data. Call me paranoid but this behavior seemed more like spyware than scientific research.
8:20 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I liked the old setiathome client much better
8:23 PM UTC, October 12 2006
hungry for internet, bugged me all day and was complicated to download and upload units. OLD SETI WAS WAY BETTER!
8:26 PM UTC, October 12 2006
je préférais l'ancien programme, désolé
8:31 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Had problems minmizing it on bootup-multiple PC's. Like the original Seti interface better
8:35 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I switched the the cancer project at grid.org. I felt the cancer project was more important than SETI
8:43 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it just didnt work very well it wouldnt connect and dl work units and other things like that
8:46 PM UTC, October 12 2006
www.ud.com
8:54 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I got a new emailadres and could not get my credits to my new account
8:56 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I really don't like BOINC, but LOVED the old Windows Seti@Home
8:57 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It took up more too much memory and had my computer crashing most nights
9:07 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I didnt like the new software (boinc)
9:19 PM UTC, October 12 2006
My SETI@Home Account credentials got mismached & I didn't want to make a new account
9:27 PM UTC, October 12 2006
i traded my MS Windows for an iMac
9:31 PM UTC, October 12 2006
persistantly failed to connect for uploading completed work data
9:37 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It just didn't run well well with Mac OS X whereas the 'old' SETI screensaver worked a treat.
9:37 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I do not know what it is. When the Seti site changed & my software no longer worked, I could not get on to download anything new.
9:40 PM UTC, October 12 2006
lack of statistical graphics and progress
9:41 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I HATED it!!! See "Comments"
9:41 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I did not like the new format (graphics). It just was not the old SETI
9:42 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It wasn't seti dedicated.
9:48 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I dont' understand the new credits, the seti classic was much better at awarding credits.
9:50 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Es hat zu viele Ressourcen verbraucht. weit mehr als die alte Software. War nicht so gut steuerbar.
9:52 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Preferred previous s/w to BOINC
10:02 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It always ran in the background and took up resources when I needed them. Bring back the screen saver only version!
10:13 PM UTC, October 12 2006
SETI Enhanced = Less Rewarding
10:15 PM UTC, October 12 2006
too intrusive - i prefer simple cmdline
10:18 PM UTC, October 12 2006
With 'old-style' Seti, you felt DIRECTLY involved - BOINC is one stepped removed and too esoteric. I meight go back but...
10:29 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It consumed too many resources on my systems and I was concerned about security
10:31 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I was switched TO BOINC and lost the simplicity of the original SETI@HOME
10:32 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I can not set it to only use 50% of the CPU, making the system to slow if I have it on.
10:37 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It took up too much CPU resources and was causing crashes/lockups of critical software
10:38 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Before BOINC, I had 12 computers running the SETI command-line client. Only 3 are BOINC capable. The command-line client was "lean and mean" and could be set up via batch file. BOINC is bloated and has to be "installed".
10:40 PM UTC, October 12 2006
It's wasn't as straight-forward as SETI
10:47 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I was becoming concerned with the safety of the downloads
10:48 PM UTC, October 12 2006
reinstalling is a pain
10:49 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it started to run two copies at the sme time. Could not shut it down. Whiped all traces off my system to freeup.
10:54 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Installation on network devices produced inconsistent results; it was weird compared to the simple SETI@Home product and not worth the effort. I recall it also seemed more intrusive
11:02 PM UTC, October 12 2006
The graphics on the screensaver are awful.
11:04 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I am waiting until I get a new computer with multiple processors. Mine is too slow now to run Boinc also.
11:07 PM UTC, October 12 2006
it is not working correctly
11:08 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Bionic said it didnt work half the time.
11:17 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I did not like the look of the new seti interface
11:19 PM UTC, October 12 2006
i hated boinc
11:47 PM UTC, October 12 2006
I didn't like the BONIC software
11:57 PM UTC, October 12 2006
all the attractive features of seti-at-home had been removed and I felt no personal involvement,no challenge to rise in the ranks, no attractive processing data, etc.etc
11:58 PM UTC, October 12 2006
Liver Transplant
12:06 AM UTC, October 13 2006
The server never connected. You lost the competitve nature by not seeing where you were with respect to others and the number of data packets analized. I liked the original system way better.
12:10 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I think the GUI for SETI with BOINC is nowhere near as good as the original software.
12:17 AM UTC, October 13 2006
my primary computer is now a laptop and I don't want to run it 24/7
12:19 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Switched to Ubuntu linux and had forgotten to run the debian linux version
12:19 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I thought I was running it.
12:21 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I got tired of having to download every day. I found a program that would let me download enough packets so I would only have to up/download once a week. That worked GREAT. I had to get it again but never could make it work. It was just taking more time than I was willing to put in. If I could get software (that work's) I'd start back again. (and this was on dial-up, I have DSL now.)
12:31 AM UTC, October 13 2006
It Took too long to get work units downloaded & uploaded, If at all
12:33 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Sucked in many ways compared to original software
12:35 AM UTC, October 13 2006
it was totally different than the origonal seti experience, I hated it.
12:39 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Seti at home had too many participants
12:48 AM UTC, October 13 2006
no units would upload , kept geting server errors
12:52 AM UTC, October 13 2006
could not tell if it was actually doing anything
12:56 AM UTC, October 13 2006
It never uploaded results or downloaded new work units.
12:57 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I installed the BBC BOINC project and it shut off all other projects, so I removed it & never got around to reinstalling.
12:59 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Didn't like it.
1:02 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Kept locking up computer - couldn't tell what was happening with the SETI project easily
1:04 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Reinstalled OS
1:11 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Reformatted hard drive and forgot to reinstall it
1:16 AM UTC, October 13 2006
reformatted my PC and forgot to put it back on
1:21 AM UTC, October 13 2006
It was not as graphic as the old software for SETI
1:28 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Found BOINC too distractive, would prefer to see something other than it computing data all the time.
1:35 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Didn't care for the innerface
1:53 AM UTC, October 13 2006
computing issues related to computer control.
1:58 AM UTC, October 13 2006
BOINC opens ports that allow remote management of my machines. The original SETI@home program could only download work units, not allow me or anyone to take remote control of my processing horsepower even when there is a firewall. I considered this change in philosophy treason.
2:01 AM UTC, October 13 2006
In the classic version, my reusults were in the 98 percentile. Yes, there was a little ego here in addition to the pride of beging a small part of some important research. And I knew that the top scores were probably going to some IT guy that had 100 CPU's at his command. But I was doing pretty good for a one desktop guy. So when you switched to BONIC, I was doubly enthused because I could run the data on both processors at the same time. And it went along OK for several months. Then I started getting the message that ende in "WAIT 3 DAYS". Then five days later it was "wait two days". Then "wait 10 days". And it was stuck for a month at "wait 20 days". Enough is enough. Uninstall.
2:08 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I moved to a room with no internet connection
2:09 AM UTC, October 13 2006
It made my computers run too hot (full throttle all the time).
2:15 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Old Seti was better , more graphical, and didn't wipe out my 5 years of points.
2:20 AM UTC, October 13 2006
It didn't work
2:21 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Lost access to computers that could run BOINC
2:27 AM UTC, October 13 2006
computer crashed, never restarted it
2:28 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I could not tune the program to use less that 100% processor.
2:30 AM UTC, October 13 2006
didn't like losing setique
2:39 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I don't like the BOINC product
2:41 AM UTC, October 13 2006
The linux client for the amd64 architecture isn't stable yet
2:43 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I run the computer in my main living area to incorporate it into audio system, after a mac software upgrade SETI caused the processor fan to run contiuously, I detest the noise so I shut SETI down.
2:48 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Could not track progress like the old seti, Do not like reporting thru BOINC
2:54 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I really preferred the original SETI@Home's 'look & feel'.
3:06 AM UTC, October 13 2006
BONIC was to unstable to bother with.. the old way worked. If BONIC is better now, I will try again
3:31 AM UTC, October 13 2006
replaced harddrive never thought about reinstalling
3:48 AM UTC, October 13 2006
it failed to automatically stop processing when i used my computer
4:02 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I wish I could remember just what made it such a pain, but I didn't bother reinstalling it after a disk crash because I didn't much like it compared to the old SETI@home. Too bad, because I really liked being part of the project.
4:16 AM UTC, October 13 2006
NEVER WORK AT THE START OF NEW BONIC, ALWAYS AN EXCUSES FROM SETI@home (FAQ) AFTER 6 MONTHS, STILL NO UPLOADING, HAVE TO TAKE TIME OUT TO TRY AND MAKE IT WORK!
4:27 AM UTC, October 13 2006
i did not like it and then i lost my intrest
4:32 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Stopped using Windows, using Linux now.
4:58 AM UTC, October 13 2006
und wenig transparent was gerade abläuft
5:08 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Previous software worked better
5:41 AM UTC, October 13 2006
It disturbed my sons wargames
Computer too noisy due to the processor usage
6:57 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I never really understood how the new system worked, the old seti was much clearer
7:18 AM UTC, October 13 2006
it became too unstable and kept locking the machine out requiring a reboot which is no laughing matter on a Linux system
7:22 AM UTC, October 13 2006
folding
7:36 AM UTC, October 13 2006
I prefered the old command line client
7:42 AM UTC, October 13 2006
No longer running PC on a daily basis
7:49 AM UTC, October 13 2006
cpu temperature
7:54 AM UTC, October 13 2006
The previous method for SETI was PERFECT...if it wasn't broke, why did you "fix" it?

9:07 AM UTC, October 13 2006
it kept having problems attaching to SETI
9:48 AM UTC, October 13 2006
die Verfallzeit einer Workunit viel zu gering ist und keine Workunit fertig wird!
10:14 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Seti@home worked great b4 boinc - after, there way too many little and not so little problems.
10:16 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Old Seti was better. BOINC is boring.
10:25 AM UTC, October 13 2006
i changed provider and forgot butt beleive there is somthing out there
10:49 AM UTC, October 13 2006
It took too long to get another unit.
11:07 AM UTC, October 13 2006
it did not run as well command line I was running
11:26 AM UTC, October 13 2006
PC Kept getting slower and having problems. I now have a Mac.
11:28 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Created too much heat
11:29 AM UTC, October 13 2006
Too much proc overhead, I really disliked the new graphics
11:36 AM UTC, October 13 2006
My SEIT@Home contributions seemed insignificant
12:04 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Because my classic stats got set to zero because of your server malfunctioning when the project shut down due to some server sommand not telling my WU caching program to stop trying to upload the completed WU and to delete the result
12:07 PM UTC, October 13 2006
didn't play nice with other software
12:15 PM UTC, October 13 2006
not good for my laptop's "health"
12:18 PM UTC, October 13 2006
the screen savers looked boring. I like the SETI original one you had but we cant look for aliens anymore since you don't send out new packets.
12:21 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I used to run pre-boinc seti@home, but now my main computer is a laptop
12:55 PM UTC, October 13 2006
My old SETI efforts did not transfer over well
1:13 PM UTC, October 13 2006
upgraded computer and forgot to reinstall
1:16 PM UTC, October 13 2006
my team members couldn't help me much and I couldn't figure out how to get help from BOINC or SETI@home.
1:16 PM UTC, October 13 2006
BOINC never worked right and trying to get legit help was not possible.
1:24 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I lost a lot of cool built up "hours" during the switch over
1:27 PM UTC, October 13 2006
because I liked the graphical part of the old program. I wanted to SEE what my computer was doing, not just having it work for you. With the new program, all it does it just work and I get no enjoyment out of it as I work, before I could watch it doing its magic, now... nothing. Give me a graphical interface back and I will put it back on all my machines. I had 3 running it before, now I have 5 that could be running it including a linux machine.
1:49 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Tuve problemas de ordenador
1:57 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Attaching to a project was a bit convoluted too.
2:09 PM UTC, October 13 2006
the old system was better
2:27 PM UTC, October 13 2006
United Devices
2:30 PM UTC, October 13 2006
united-devices cancer research project
2:53 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I did not like the fomat of using Boinc, I liked the old way and since I can not change it back I quite.
2:54 PM UTC, October 13 2006
CPU overheat
3:01 PM UTC, October 13 2006
REinstalled system, forgot to install again.
3:02 PM UTC, October 13 2006
i cant login... it wrote "login failed"
3:09 PM UTC, October 13 2006
you don't support my primary platform -- OpenVMS on Alpha or Itanium
3:13 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Uses too much CPU
3:24 PM UTC, October 13 2006
too many problems getting work; over heating computer
3:34 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Trouble running BOINC in Windows XP
3:40 PM UTC, October 13 2006
lack of (easy) AMD64 K8 support from my projects
3:40 PM UTC, October 13 2006
your new system started and I never got into it. I ran SETI for about 3 years.
3:46 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Moved from classic Seti to BOINC Seti. Too difficult to get work units submitted. And... BOINC didn't import my previous history. I am still furious.
3:51 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I felt there are more important BOINC projects like climateprediction, protein folding, etc.
3:51 PM UTC, October 13 2006
It's a piece of junk
3:55 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I am pretty smart, took too long to get it working.
4:01 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Switched to Folding@Home
4:11 PM UTC, October 13 2006
ni me acuerdo
4:16 PM UTC, October 13 2006
It does not work properly
4:30 PM UTC, October 13 2006
it seemed to be inconsistent; sometimes it would be working sometimes it wouldn't and then I wouldn't have a proper screensaver; I just felt there were problems with it which is too bad because I really liked the idea behind it. I'd love to go back to it if I knew it would be consistent
4:40 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I don't like boinc. I like seti
4:48 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Liked old, simple, non-boinc SETI way
4:49 PM UTC, October 13 2006
didn't seem to be able to receive new work units from project when neede so there was too much unused CPU time
4:55 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Diese Software stand im Verdacht Netzwerkprobleme im G+J-Netzwerk hervorzurufen, deswegen haben wir sie von allen Computern entfernen müssen.
5:00 PM UTC, October 13 2006
it doesn't work as good as the old one. To much maintenance to keep going.
5:01 PM UTC, October 13 2006
The new BOINC screensaver for SETI is really bad.
5:01 PM UTC, October 13 2006
had computer problems and eliminated all "unnecessary" programs to find the problem; just never got back to it...
5:08 PM UTC, October 13 2006
BOINC is a Resource HOG
5:09 PM UTC, October 13 2006
je crois que je n'ai pas reussi a faire du seti@home mais uniquement certaines autres donnees
5:18 PM UTC, October 13 2006
GO BACK TO seti@home, DUMP that BOINC CRAP
5:22 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I stopped with Boinc on my computer, because the computer can'nt cope anymore do to your software.
5:24 PM UTC, October 13 2006
i just didn't like the interface, bring back the old and i will start running seti again
5:27 PM UTC, October 13 2006
it looked rubbish - bring back the old mac screensaver
5:30 PM UTC, October 13 2006
It refuses to connect to my project, SETI
5:38 PM UTC, October 13 2006
менял работу
5:41 PM UTC, October 13 2006
it gave trouble, and I loved the old Seti screensaver
6:03 PM UTC, October 13 2006
It would not upload and I could not give it more the 2megs of mem I ahve 30 megs free for this project
6:03 PM UTC, October 13 2006
cvs versions would not compile
6:13 PM UTC, October 13 2006
operating system crach an i forgo to insall again
6:14 PM UTC, October 13 2006
The BOINC Windows XP screensaver starts, but most of the time is suspended and no work gets done. The logo just goes around the screen, but no work gets done. I tried reinstalling BOINC, it worked for a while and then again starting doing this. Same problem on my home and work computer.
6:23 PM UTC, October 13 2006
folding at home
6:31 PM UTC, October 13 2006
user unfriendly, see comments below
6:35 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Had computer issues - non BOINC.
6:40 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Our IT guy asked that all software he did not install be removed from my laptop as I was complaining on how slow my laptop had been running of late.....
6:51 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Change in network policy at work blocked access BOINC servers
7:00 PM UTC, October 13 2006
slowed computer down
7:07 PM UTC, October 13 2006
did not like the software
7:08 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I liked the older interface much better
7:25 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Software got to complicated and created problems and seems to crash all the time. This was suppose to be simple but got to be a compatition
7:26 PM UTC, October 13 2006
oublier de réinstaller
7:30 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Lost many credits of hours after switching from the old setiathome, i know that not the point, but you did not think it through very well, felt like old credits are not import to "SETI" so it should not be import to the users.
7:36 PM UTC, October 13 2006
VISTA
7:40 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I don't like the software. It uses up more of my system resources, and I don't like the interface. I like the old software much better.
7:48 PM UTC, October 13 2006
mir mitgeteilt wurde, dass SETI HOME beendet wurde
7:51 PM UTC, October 13 2006
RC5-72
7:55 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I signed up with SETI@Home years ago (when it first started) - it was simple and I could d something to help. Now it's just over-complicated, what were you guys thinking!
7:59 PM UTC, October 13 2006
alles auf Englisch
8:04 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Other projects and I couldn't reclaim classic SETI credit b/c of lost password
8:06 PM UTC, October 13 2006
It was confusing, and I was never sure if it was working properly
8:10 PM UTC, October 13 2006
used too much of my system resources ie memory
8:11 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Hardware problems on my laptop combined with dogslow ISP speed & availability (wah!)
8:16 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Rechner wurde neu aufgesetzt... Boinc war weg....
8:19 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Because BOINC eat too much RAM & HDD place, & got many unused options & config features that are not need. It's just piece of many things that make garbage. The software that was used before BOINC was 1000% better, simlper & much easier to start & forget WITHOUT INSTALLATION.
8:19 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Katrina - I work in New Orleans
8:21 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Not as "cool" looking.
8:22 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I hate the complicated method to attach to projects, the poor information regarding the projects, the very poorly designed interface, the lack of visibilty on contribution relative to others and I also started processing dnet data (possibility of getting paid)
8:24 PM UTC, October 13 2006
siehe unten
8:24 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Liked the original software much better
8:30 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Programm ist zu umfangreich
8:37 PM UTC, October 13 2006
It stopped keeping track of my work units.
8:40 PM UTC, October 13 2006
動作させるとCPUが100%の使用率になってしまい、ペンティアム4であっという間に終わってしまう。
8:46 PM UTC, October 13 2006
8:51 PM UTC, October 13 2006
It was always running and couldn't figure out how to set it to run only when computer was not in use.
8:54 PM UTC, October 13 2006
like old interface better
9:00 PM UTC, October 13 2006
projects were down for a long time
9:05 PM UTC, October 13 2006
PC läuft heiß..
9:06 PM UTC, October 13 2006
i liked using the original software
9:07 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Don't use my stationary PC much anymore...
9:10 PM UTC, October 13 2006
there is no official linux 64 bit client
9:12 PM UTC, October 13 2006
had problems downloading projects, and completing work units successfully
9:17 PM UTC, October 13 2006
constant site problems
9:24 PM UTC, October 13 2006
missed the old interface
9:27 PM UTC, October 13 2006
It was much less complicated and more user friendly with the original SETI project software. I was running it nearly continulously for some 5 years, but rather lost interest when the new BOINC came along. I felt that it all lost it's way.
9:27 PM UTC, October 13 2006
The old Seti application was genious in its simplicity.
9:40 PM UTC, October 13 2006
We liked doing the Seti project as a screen saver ( we do believe in the effort ) but the boinc software kept ending it's jobs and wanting attention, We finally just disabled it. If you have a program still operating that is just the Seti search we'd be interested. Thanks for the contact.
9:41 PM UTC, October 13 2006
SETI at home didn't run properly in Guest mode, which my computers run in most of the time.
9:57 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I couldn't attach to a project
9:57 PM UTC, October 13 2006
reformatted my computer and just didn't put it back on. And I don't have the password and BOINC is not as much fun for me to run.
10:00 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I had some problems with my computer.
10:01 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Interferred with cpu-intensive applications MUCH more than the original SEtI software
10:15 PM UTC, October 13 2006
sucked up my bandwith, pc ran slow.
10:18 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I didn't work. I reinstalled several times, and yes - I carfully followed th install directions. I was simply an unreliable piece of software, only working briefly if at all. A vastly less satisfying experience than the previous setiathome software.
10:18 PM UTC, October 13 2006
alte seti@home software war kleiner und schöner vom Design
10:20 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Often would stop. Felt like I lost all my "pre-BOINC" work since it started over at 0.
10:31 PM UTC, October 13 2006
IT dept banned BOINC
10:32 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Did not like the screen saver
10:34 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I lost my internet
10:42 PM UTC, October 13 2006
my computer crashed, but is now operational
10:48 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Concern for overheating cpu
10:49 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I was on a dial-up connection and reconnection to obtain work units was becomming a significant cost. An email asking about the possibility of downloading multiple work units at reconnection, received no reply!
10:50 PM UTC, October 13 2006
The new software is ridiculously complicated, the old client was prefecty capable and simple in comparison
10:51 PM UTC, October 13 2006
i needed the cpu power to run 24/7 java apps
10:51 PM UTC, October 13 2006
DIdnt provide Old Seti stats I liked
10:56 PM UTC, October 13 2006
You lost all my results
10:57 PM UTC, October 13 2006
BOINC is much more problematic and harder to configure than SETI was
11:02 PM UTC, October 13 2006
BOINC software needs reworked, it is lame!!!
11:14 PM UTC, October 13 2006
it was a memory pig and had memory leaks, crap software
11:23 PM UTC, October 13 2006
Too many errors in work units
11:32 PM UTC, October 13 2006
didn't like the boinic software
11:38 PM UTC, October 13 2006
(1) Kept laptop in high power mode and the fan on and (2) the windows priority bug has not been fixed - still interferes with MS outlook express
11:41 PM UTC, October 13 2006
cambié mi equipo y no lo instalé en el nuevo
11:43 PM UTC, October 13 2006
I could never get it to run. It was confusing and badly designed from a user standpoint. I am not a novice; I am a professional programmer.
12:00 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I obtained a work computer and felt that it was right to run your program on it
12:01 AM UTC, October 14 2006
new computer, didn't get around to installing it again
12:01 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Spent all the time trying to connect and return results and get new work. Lost credit for previous work done before loading BOINC.
12:04 AM UTC, October 14 2006
My computer became outdated
12:09 AM UTC, October 14 2006
No longer able to drag-and-drop install on systems
12:15 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I liked the funny screensaver from the early days and since that is gone I stopped with SETI. Does Boinc have a screensaver now ? The old version I had didn't or it was a hidden function somewhere.
12:17 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I lost my password and was unable to recieve credit for the work I was doing.
12:33 AM UTC, October 14 2006
It was intrusive in a way the old software was not.
12:34 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Cambie computadora y no reinstalé
12:38 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Not so much complicated as "required more thought than single-use SET@HOME"
12:41 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Took too long to complete a cycle -- weeks?
12:46 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Miserable to connect to transfer completed units and get new units. Go back to the old SETI, and I'll come back. Otherwise, I have enough aggravations without yours, thank you.
1:09 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I didn't realize I wasn't turning in work units anymore
1:10 AM UTC, October 14 2006
SETI seemed over-subscribed
1:11 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I moved to a location w/no internet connection, but that will be changing soon and i'll be back online within a month
1:11 AM UTC, October 14 2006
computer crashed lost all s/w
1:14 AM UTC, October 14 2006
The benchmark testing ran way too often and consumed too much CPU time when it did.
1:14 AM UTC, October 14 2006
My comp ran into problems starting all Screen Savers & I haven't bothered to fix that issue...
1:18 AM UTC, October 14 2006
It used to much resourses, i like the old Seti@home software better
1:29 AM UTC, October 14 2006
visual display and results were difficult to interpert. I used to run seti spy but lost interest in boinc.
1:30 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I could not tell what/how I was doing.
1:46 AM UTC, October 14 2006
The results just took too long to happen as it was too memory consuming
2:04 AM UTC, October 14 2006
The software would ALWAYS fail when trying to connect to SETI servers. But when I tried manually it would connect without problem. That became a PAIN.
2:05 AM UTC, October 14 2006
very invasive program
2:10 AM UTC, October 14 2006
computer crash + reload + can't configure BOINC again...other projects running....hard to know if a project is dormant or broken...forgot password
2:17 AM UTC, October 14 2006
It seemed to never complete any work. At least the interface was confusing enough that I couldn't tell whether it did or not.
2:19 AM UTC, October 14 2006
It was not engaging like Seti. As I tried to tell you before. There was no visual display, only stats. I wanted to see the projects process with the flowing graphics. I am not interested in watching a damn spreadsheet telling me what my computer is working on and not be able to watch the work.
2:30 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I reinstalled my system and haven't reinstalled it yet
2:34 AM UTC, October 14 2006
switched to new computer
2:43 AM UTC, October 14 2006
your site wouldn't load new stuff
2:48 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Computer broke, and OS no longer supported when I finally got it back up.
2:56 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I hate boinc
3:11 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Folding @ home
3:14 AM UTC, October 14 2006
All my projects became "unattached" and I was unable to reattach
3:17 AM UTC, October 14 2006
my computer would suddenly shut down
3:23 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Causes laptop fans to speed along
3:29 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I had liked the old SETI interface much better
3:40 AM UTC, October 14 2006
trouble transfering nic "toddoldb1" became "toddoldb1a"
3:47 AM UTC, October 14 2006
It hogged all of my resources and would not release the processor back to me when I wanted to use it.
3:50 AM UTC, October 14 2006
System rebuild - forgot
3:54 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Caused my processor to overheat and shut down. Will join again if I can fix the problem.
4:13 AM UTC, October 14 2006
i preferred the older method of counting work units. Furthermore, all my original work units were now gone.
4:27 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I could never understand how much i had cntributed to the overall SETI effort, unlike the pre-BOINC system which always provided a way to understand where a participant stood in the population of participants.
4:36 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I hated the interface
4:44 AM UTC, October 14 2006
i liked the old version with the graph
4:55 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I prefer the old Seti Client.
4:58 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I found that it was downloading network information that you had no reason to tak. I felt that was an invasion of privacy and deleted the program and agents.
4:59 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I moved and didn't have a computer
4:59 AM UTC, October 14 2006
it was not as easy to deal with as the old software
5:05 AM UTC, October 14 2006
долго не мог обновить задания
5:09 AM UTC, October 14 2006
IT took most of my units away. I started seti in the 90's because of Art Bell. That seems gone too.
5:20 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Makes the cooling fans run all the time
5:23 AM UTC, October 14 2006
unavailable work units
5:33 AM UTC, October 14 2006
BOINC is a shitty program, plain and simple
5:37 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I could not make it run how I wanted it to.
5:46 AM UTC, October 14 2006
it is ugly to look at
5:56 AM UTC, October 14 2006
GIMP
6:23 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I preferred the old interface rather than boinc. I liked the old graphics etc and the way of recording how much work I had done. I did not like the chnages that were made so lost interest.
6:25 AM UTC, October 14 2006
It isn't optimised for use on a laptop
6:27 AM UTC, October 14 2006
It quit working
6:33 AM UTC, October 14 2006
overly complicated what should be a simple app
6:39 AM UTC, October 14 2006
grid.org
6:43 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I'm only intrested in SETI project.
6:52 AM UTC, October 14 2006
application lacked the personality and personalized seti feel of the original. Not to mention the graphics.
6:55 AM UTC, October 14 2006
it was non-intuitive, and the graph were indecipherable
7:06 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I didn't like the way it operated
7:15 AM UTC, October 14 2006
my previous work was not calculated correctly and I preferred the classic format
7:17 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Raises the temperature of my computer/server
7:24 AM UTC, October 14 2006
keine neuen Seti-Workunits bekommen
7:31 AM UTC, October 14 2006
crashed-changed computers
7:37 AM UTC, October 14 2006
keine Clients für HP-UX o. andere UNIXe
7:39 AM UTC, October 14 2006
nicht mehr daran gedacht habe seit einer Neuinstallation
7:41 AM UTC, October 14 2006
it was not as satisfying as previous software
7:47 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I use laptops and the cooling fans were always on - you guys considered a GPU API like folding at home?
8:02 AM UTC, October 14 2006
my processor was not sufficient to complete a chunk
overheating(i've fan problems not yet resolved)
8:09 AM UTC, October 14 2006
All my old work totals weren't copied over
8:12 AM UTC, October 14 2006
(Excessive CPU usage on laptop)
8:15 AM UTC, October 14 2006
auch auf weiteren Rechnern reproduzierbar
8:17 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I lost interest because of the programme BOINC.
8:27 AM UTC, October 14 2006
The computer crashed and had to reinstall everything and forgot to reinstall BOINC
8:27 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I would pause it and it would restart automatically.
8:28 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Changed ISP & I had no way of updating my details with an unrecognised password.
8:31 AM UTC, October 14 2006
It is no easier since I tried it when it was first launched, I had no control over it, it ran when I set it not to and used 100% of my cpu power, it had to go. The old Seti program was simple BOINC is just complicated. For example, when I am setting it up it asks me which URL to use, so I have to exit the setup to find out, if I type it in wrongly and press finish I have lost the setup, make it simple, simple, simple, simple. Also, the graphics are awful, a rotating fuzzy image. Go back to the simple SETI.
8:35 AM UTC, October 14 2006
something else
8:35 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Hard/confusing to configure
8:37 AM UTC, October 14 2006
too slow
8:44 AM UTC, October 14 2006
The access to Seti was blocked by corporate firewall
8:44 AM UTC, October 14 2006
i didn't like the screensaver.. it bounces around.. and, i lost all my stats when i transfered over to boinc
8:45 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I bought a new p.c.
8:53 AM UTC, October 14 2006
There is no way / it is too comlicated to schedule BOINC to stop after working fixed perioid of time (so that my computer would hibernate)
9:04 AM UTC, October 14 2006
My server ran slower
9:12 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I lost credit for old working unit when seti changed program to Boinc
9:25 AM UTC, October 14 2006
i moved country and forgot about it
9:30 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Heat during summer is a problem
9:43 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I switched to a laptop and wanted it to sleep
9:43 AM UTC, October 14 2006
disk drive seemed to be overworked
9:58 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Didnt like being forced to use something more complecated than before
10:06 AM UTC, October 14 2006
too hot cpu/room in summer
10:10 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Had bob-related computer problems and upgrading
10:11 AM UTC, October 14 2006
it failed too frequently
10:16 AM UTC, October 14 2006
my hard drive died & when I got a new one I didn't start again because it had been a bit iffy at times
10:30 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Seti@Home is not 100% open source. A binary is needed underneath.
10:38 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I don't like it
10:44 AM UTC, October 14 2006
It was hard on my system resources.
10:58 AM UTC, October 14 2006
And My Computer is too slow for it...
11:01 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I likedthe old seti client. this boinc thing sucks
11:06 AM UTC, October 14 2006
it doesn't have the visual appeal I am used to
11:07 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I don't like the program, it's too convoluted
11:15 AM UTC, October 14 2006
NO CPU THROTTLING !!!!!!
11:20 AM UTC, October 14 2006
My computer broke down (due to a non-boinc related issue)
11:20 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I liked SETI Classic
11:24 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I could not get it compiled and working in Gentoo Linux on AMD64 bit
11:26 AM UTC, October 14 2006
it wasn't as interesting visually as the old client
11:26 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Is didn't have internet
11:34 AM UTC, October 14 2006
it used up too much processing power/ram, and the cooling fan was constantly on full speed
11:34 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I liked classic SETI@home. BOINC sucks
11:38 AM UTC, October 14 2006
climate prediction reiniciaba si tenía que reiniciar irregularmente mi sistema operativo
11:41 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Folding at home
11:41 AM UTC, October 14 2006
Didn't play nice with other applications;boinc would compete for CPU time, and set to run only when idle, nothing ever got done.Multiple Project attaching and management was also difficult. The mac client was far too buggy.
11:46 AM UTC, October 14 2006
used too much computing power, I use a laptop
11:47 AM UTC, October 14 2006
I wasn't convinced that it was doing anything productive.
11:50 AM UTC, October 14 2006
generated too much heat
upgraded computer and forgot
11:59 AM UTC, October 14 2006
From what I remember, it was way too resource heavy and did not integrate with the screensaver as the last one did. I just remember it running when I duidn't want it to, and there didn't seem to be any decent way to configure it as I wanted it to run, ie. only as a screensaver.
12:00 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Got deleted from my computer by mistate
12:00 PM UTC, October 14 2006
2. PC nur für BOINC zu teuer, im Hintergrund zu langsam
12:03 PM UTC, October 14 2006
I liked the old style of Seti@home
12:07 PM UTC, October 14 2006
switched to a new computer anf forgot to re-install
12:09 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Does not have the same flare as the old SETI program
12:14 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Cambie de equipo y se me olvidó instalarlo
12:15 PM UTC, October 14 2006
My old computer crashed
12:17 PM UTC, October 14 2006
cambié de servidor
12:22 PM UTC, October 14 2006
it never ran correctly
12:27 PM UTC, October 14 2006
BOINC is the most terrible distibuted computing client i've ever saw.
12:33 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Never could getthe last iteration to load.
12:35 PM UTC, October 14 2006
It causes fans to run all the time on my Macs
12:35 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Screensaver looked ugly compared to old seti@home
12:39 PM UTC, October 14 2006
I am travelling and do not log into my computer anymore
12:41 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Temporary overheating problem (not BOINC's fault)
12:46 PM UTC, October 14 2006
It would stop and start uncontrollablly
12:48 PM UTC, October 14 2006
processor ran too hot, fan constantly running
12:58 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Couldn't recover password when ISP changed and couldn't consolidate accounts
1:00 PM UTC, October 14 2006
It wiped out my computers. It was worse than the folded protein project. It was a primary cause for not leaving my computers running.
1:02 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Made the fan run constantly
1:05 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Too many reasons to list, but making it too dificult to retreive my previous login details capped it for me.
1:07 PM UTC, October 14 2006
I do have it running on my secondary computer, and it works okay
1:07 PM UTC, October 14 2006
Looks like the software may contain spyware, not sure
1:09 PM UTC, October 14 2006
no feedback on possible results
1:11 PM UTC, October 14 2006
folding@home
1:14 PM UTC, October 14 2006
It wasn't as UI friendly as the previous SETi interface, just looked confusing, and horrible
