BOINC requires dial-on-demand which seti@home didn't. I had a script that would dial in only when my machine was done with a seti unit, grab a new one, and disconnect. Dial-on-demand leaves my machine on the net too long. Possible compromise possible.

I gladly donated 4 years of computer time to the Setiathome project but found it impossible to transfer to the BOINC setup. I wasted much time in the effort. I tried emailing your organisation but was rewarded with no reply. It may surprise you to know that many users like me are not interested in wading through loads of FAQs. We just wanted to transfer from the original Setiathome site to the BOINC setup with the minimum of time spent. Setiathome managed to collect hundreds of thousands of volunteers to donate millions of computing years in what is probably biggest co-operative venture in the history of mankind. Yet the BOINC organisation couldn't provide a simple quick routine to transfer from the original to the new setup or bother to answer an email.

At the time, BOINC distributed same work units to multiple members -- after sufficient number reported matching results, the unit was accepted, but other members continued work on the unit until they finished, only to find the "donation" unnecessary -- too wasteful of compute resources. Needed some way for server to command stop and start on next unit to all members in the grid who were still working on an accepted unit, and some way to give them partial credit for the donation. Also at the time could not run more than on computer per member account unless the computers were all on the same LAN

I couldn't ever figure out what it was doing, or if it was actually doing anything. And it seemed like it was always having problems communicating back with the server. Poorly designed software. It is not easy to follow at all. It would not link with my original data file, I couldn't download and process data files, it does not work in the background like seti did before, it is just a pain in the " " to use!! And, believe me, I tried to make this work. I concider myself to be very computer savy; my friends call me for help with their computer needs. But this BOINC program is just not worth the effort to run.

I have Matrox cards and all my computers crashed or freezed running Boinc(SETI). The answer I got from Seti's staff was that they were not interested in fixing this issue since it was old video cards. I was very disapointed, since the old SETI application was runnig very nicely, to quit the program.

the Boinc software slowed up my laptops performance. I found it hard to connect at times to the SETI project and even harder to get new work units. I prefered the old screensaver only system as it was easier to manage and worked more effecently in my opinion

It was a pain in the neck. SETI just worked and was simple. BOINC rarely worked and required too much attention. I set up over half of the company computers to run it and it rarely worked. The old graphics were better too. Change for change's sake is never better. Leave the old graphics in place and let me go back to the old SETI@Home.

I don't want my PC to be on a network with other PCs. The old software downloaded packets, processed them, and sent them back. This one makes you an IP on a network and I don't like that. If I'm misreading how this works, let me know and I'll reconsider.

It was WAY to complicated for a Grama like me. I never even knew it had stopped on me! I did the original SETI since 2000 and did not like the changeover . I DO like getting my new email address to you. Another thing I don't like how the user stats are... seems like before I could find myself a lot easier. Last project I attached to seemed to corrupt the entire application. Currently I have had trouble de-installing and simply ignore it when the BOINC screensavor informs me I need to run processes to get any screensavor graphics. It is extremely irritating that the processes active when the BOINC app failed to de-install reboot into the Windows process/task queue every time I restart the computer. Perhaps some inter-project quality control or review would reduce these kinds of problems.

Following the procedure to run BOINC became very confusing and failed to run after numerous attempts to download or to troubleshoot why. Your fix to troubleshoot the problem only steered me down the same path and was somewhat intimidating as my computer speak and knowledge was not able to understand how to make the switch. The help forums that I looked into seemed that I was not alone with the diffuculties, so I gave up trying. Go back to the older version. When I attempt to connect I get an error (16;0)

I keep getting message from AOL - file too large. Contact AOL they said contact BOINC, I did, but was unable to get assistance.
