Was extremely patient with me and my computer. We never fixed the problem; however, when I renewed the machine to factory specs, things began to work again! We probably never would have fixed it otherwise.

Mike was very helpful. I contacted him by Skype chat. The problem was I was running a VERY old version of BOINC, but since it never asked me to update it, nor did I see any obvious "check for update", I just let it run. For the last 5 months, it was having great difficulty getting work units and would only get a few a day.
