Recently, I encountered several errors in my computer that could only be fixed with an OS reinstall. What happens to the tasks that were still in progress at the time of the reinstall? All the data was lost, so there's no way to finish them. Will BOINC recognize the tasks are deleted when I reinstall it, or will they time out and resend?

They will time out and be resent to another computer. Unless it's a project that does resending of lost tasks, and it recognizes your computer as being a previous hostID with lost tasks to send you these, it's highly unlikely that you will get these lost tasks again.
