Normally, Boinc Runs 24/7 on my Computer.

But, Boinc Update to 7.2.42 Failed Miserablely and Left me Without Boinc.

I got the message about a newer version, so I went to the download page.



After downloading, the installation, but then...



I manually pointed to the location of the BOINC.msi file, but still the same result. The only option, clicking on cancel



Nothing left to do then clicking on Finish.



'Your system nas not been modified', it says. But now Boinc does not work anymore. 'boincmgr.exe' cannot be found.

I started the installation again, with the same result.

So, Now What?.

Follow Windows Installer Error 1706: Setup cannot find the required files / 1714: older version cannot be removed / BOINC.msi cannot be found / The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable / Error 1325. is not a valid short name in the BOINC FAQs.

I did the following:

First I downloaded the 'Windows Installer Cleanup Utility' and deleted Boinc.

Then I deleted the file BOINC.msi I found in folder
'C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Installations\{9B58F059-9755-4363-A208-1D8DA4D4F9DC}'

I also removed the regkey:
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Space Sciences Laboratory, U.C. Berkeley'.


I started the installation again and now it installed without any problem.

Now Boinc is running as strong as ever.
