I downloaded BOINC today. The first time I tried to run it, I got the message above, so I uninstalled and reinstalled it. It then worked okay and it did 3 hours of a 66 hour project.

Then my boyfriend used the machine for a while and he closed BOINC. Now when I try to run it I get the message above. I'm reluctant to uninstall / reinstall and lose all that work. Does anyone know what the problem could be, and how I can fix it?

Mind giving some more information, please, such as which BOINC version, which Windows version, which project(s) you added, which project was running when you had the error? (The latter info can be found in the stdoutdae.txt file in the BOINC Data directory, which may be found under C:\Programdata\BOINC\, if you didn't change its path and you're using at least Windows Vista or above. The directory is hidden, so just fill in the path in Windows Explorer and hit Enter).
While there, is there any additional information in stderrdae.txt?

The Windows error 0xc0000005 points normally to an access violation, which can be attributed to trying to use memory that isn't there. So can you also please tell us what kind of machine this is on, brand and model processor, amount of memory, amount of disk space, how hot it gets when running BOINC, when the last time was any of you cleaned the dust bunnies out of that machine, etc.

BOINC mgr 7.2.42 - installed yesterday, so I presume this is the latest version. Windows 7 Home Premium, Service pack 1. I'm working for climateprediction.net; there are a variety of task references on the pattern of hadam3p_eu_r1ct_2013_1_008716799_0.

This is an eMachines EL1852G, Pentium (R) dual-0core CPU, E5800 @ 3.20 GHz, 3 GB memory, 64 bit.

It did not seem to heat up while running BOINC. I bought it about 18 months ago and it has been sitting on my desk since; not dusty.

stderrdae.txt is empty. The final entries in stdoutoutdae.txt are after this pattern:

26-Apr-2014 20:52:51 [climateprediction.net] Task hadam3p_eu_r1ct_2013_1_008716799_0 exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
26-Apr-2014 20:52:51 [climateprediction.net] If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project.

... and then a repetition of the DLL initialisation error.

I should add, re my boyfriend's experience: He was working under his own user id. He started downloading a short video clip, and his browser locked up. Then he started getting "BOINC client has stopped working" messages. Finally he closed the BOINC manager window. But the messages continued to appear.
