hello everyone,
I've recently switched to Ubuntu after crunching on Windows and OSX for a while and while Ubunto comes with a software center to install Boinc, the version there is pretty outdated 7.0.27. I downloaded the latest installers from the Boinc website 7.2.42.
Unfortunately the installer not replaces the old version but creates a new BOIC folder with all its stuff in there. I then followed the instructions over there

https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=5876#33815

which were the only info I found on how to proceed with that installed files. It seemed to work nice, I can see the boinc client is started, running and crunching wu's, however, the manager simply wont start.
I tried replacing the manager with the old 7.0.27 manager and it runs nicely with the new client, however, I presume thats not the way it is intended.

Maybe some other Ubuntu users here have successfully updated their installation ?

You can get newer BOINC versions for older Ubuntus from LocutusOfBorg's PPA.

That is actually called 'boinc development release', although it is on the present Berkeley Recommended Release.

The actual LocutusOfBorg's PPA is this url: https://launchpad.net/~costamagnagianfranco/+archive/locutusofborg-ppa, It is presently on Boinc 7.2.33

I did check the build list there and I think the versions there have been release versions, although I didn't go all that far into the list.

Anyway, it's unofficial and not mine. I can't make any promises about it.

(Maybe should have asked Gianfranco first but meh...)
