OK, not the smartest - I know, but I was young and foolish when I first created my accounts :)

My username has a space. I'm trying to join some linux BOINC clients I have to an account manager (boinccmd --Join_acct_mgr) and I'm getting:

poll status: operation in progress
poll status: unexpected XML tag or syntax

I assume it's from the space in my username. I've tried to escape the space with \ or quotes, but no luck. It could be something else but the error message is so vague that I'm just not sure if it's the space in my username or not.

And yes, I have checked cc_config.xml and my other .xml files for proper tags, etc. and they are clean. There is no GUI on these machines - I usually don't need it except for this! How did I join these to my BOINC project you ask? With the account key, of course! Apparently you can't join to an account manager with the account managers account key unfortunately :(

Thanks!

Well, I thought I had tried everything but apparently I forgot that usernames are case sensitive. That was it :p

For anyone else having a similar issue and landing here via a search, the standard unix escape character works just fine.

If username is My Name
and password is password

then you use:

boinccmd --join_acct_mgr <URL of manager site> My\ Name password

and you should join with no issue!
