I have experienced critical errors in both seti@home and LHC project.Any pointers at to what is causing the problem?

extract from BOINC:

In addition to Tom's sensible advice about checking the error message in the Wiki, remember also the difference between BOINC and the projects that use the BOINC framework. Both error messages are saying that the relevant science app terminated abnormally. In other words it's not really a BOINC problem but rather a problem of your hardware coping with the stresses of running a couple of "full-on" science apps.

You should report your problem to the appropriate board for each of the projects as you may get better help there. Also you could check various hardware related issues like:-

1. Is your cpu cooling up to the job?
2. Is there adequate ventilation inside your case?
3. Have you checked all fans and cleaned the inside to remove dust buildup?
4. Is the ambient temperature of the room too high?
5. Can you setup a motherboard monitoring program to look at temoerature fluctuations?
6. Have you tried reseating and cleaning the contacts on all plugin cards and memory sticks?
7. Can you swap memory sticks and see if the problem goes away?
8. Are you overclocking at all?

If you check the "Problems & Help" boards of projects like Seti, LHC, EAH, etc, you will actually see quite a few references to the exit code -1073741819. I've actually seen it enough times to remember it precisely. I can't ever recall a definitive answer other than "hardware problems" but do a search on that exit code through all the project boards and I'll bet you find a considerable number of hits and maybe even an answer if you are lucky.

Good luck with your search.

Cheers,
Gary.

Gary,

I liked your list so much I added it (less one) to the Wiki in the messages section for those error messages.

Paul,

You are most welcome. I've actually been referring to the Wiki quite a few times lately, looking up error messages and the like in response to problems people are having. I must say that you and your co-contributors are doing a marvellous job. My heartfelt thanks to you all.

Cheers,
Gary.

That is what it is there for ... :)

It is nice to hear that people are using the resource (I looked at my page hits and they are not too bad actually, about 25,000 to 30,000 a month).

I have also begun to add a little more development information for the messages indicating where they are in the code. The intent is that it can help in the isolation of some of the odd problems. The bad news is that it is more work ...

Still, the biggest problem is getting it written down the FIRST time. The old FAQ material is still there, and we touch the pages and try to bring them more up to date ...

And, as always, you are most welcome. Be sure to let me know if I have missed things... I just added some notes, for example, from some information Dr. Anderson put on the developer's mailing list about the Feeder.

Gary, thanks for the kind words and Stuart, another reference source, perhaps you may want to Bookmark and review, this link to Microsoft Support, assuming you have a Microsoft Operating System. This aforementioned link will not provide assistance to your existing posted problem (the Wiki is best) , but may be useful in the future.

Regards,
Tom
