When I install BOINC, it will install and start running, all is good. As soon as I bounce the machine, when I log back in, BOINC doesn't connect to the project (no projects appear, unable to load new projects, no notices). It will yield an error popup after 2 minutes, saying it's tried to connect three times, do I want to retry. Retrying, needless to say, does no good. The Simple view goes from Retrieving current status to Unable to connect to the core client. The same AV software/firewalls/etc are in place during the installation as when I reboot, it just doesn't work on the reboot.

BOINC manager ver 7.0.64(x86) on Windows 7 Pro, SP 1, 32 bit. AMD Athlon 64X2 processor, Asus2 motherboard. No proxy server.

What do you mean with when you bounce the machine?
Fast user switch?

Apropos, the message that BOINC Manager cannot connect to the client does not mean that it cannot connect to a project. The client (boinc.exe) is probably running, as well as any project science applications. It's just that BOINC manager (boincmgr.exe) cannot make contact with the client and show you what's happening.

When you installed BOINC, did you tell it that all users were allowed to control BOINC? But really, it would be nice to know what bouncing the machine means, as it all hinges on that.

If the OP looks at his own previous thread (Client has exited 3 times in last ... ) - which seems to be about the same problem as this one - he will see that we are ready to examine his problem in some depth. It will be most helpful if he could indicate whether, when he logs back in after this mysterious bounce, he uses the same login account as he used for the original installation.

Does the work-round that you reported success with last time not work on this computer?

There has been some discussion of this issue on the boinc_alpha email list. I am hopeful that there will soon be new Windows builds available to test for solutions, but they have been delayed because the developer responsible for installation issues has had to replace a failed computer.

The apparent work around was re-installing. That worked until the bounce or relogin. Yes, I logged into the same account as it was installed in.

It appeared, previously, that the app wouldn't work under a separate/different account once installed - now it appears the problem of not working in the non-install account was the logging into the (other) account, which will cause it to not work in the installation account, as well.

Just so it's clear. If I uninstall, clear out all references in the registry, then reinstall, it will work until the I have to logout. When I log back in, BOINC cannot connect.

Yes, option was that all users could use BOINC (which shouldn't matter, since I was logging back into the account it was installed on). It was also installed NOT as a service.

If there's no solution to this, I guess I have little alternative other than removing BOINC from the system.
