BOINC is failing on each restart of my computer. The only way to resolve the issue is to perform a repair. I am using Win 7 x 64 Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BEX64 Application Name: boinc.exe Application Version: 7.0.64.0 Application Timestamp: 516dbcd7 Fault Module Name: MSVCR80.dll Fault Module Version: 8.0.50727.6195 Fault Module Timestamp: 4dcdd833 Exception Offset: 000000000007b514 Exception Code: c000000d Exception Data: 0000000000000000 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 21ff Additional Information 2: 21ffb13f0fa51d83cde990f245dfda0d Additional Information 3: 8d2d Additional Information 4: 8d2d1303ddd33cec2ba8ed2d5ab7ed79 Read our privacy statement online: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=104288&clcid=0x0409 If the online privacy statement is not available, please read our privacy statement offline: C:\Windows\system32\en-US\erofflps.txt |

I didn't answer you in the other thread (where I've now hidden your post), because I am waiting for the developers to come back to me with answers on what might be causing this. Perhaps the missing manifest. But in the mean time: Are you running BOINC under a non-administrator account? Do you have any Microsoft Visual Studio installed? Or Microsoft Office? Or Microsoft SQL? Have you checked that msvcr80.dll is in C:\Windows\system32 and that it's the correct version? Not that it's been replaced by a malware version? Is some anti-malware software on your system blocking access to C:\Windows\system32 and any file therein, or is it removing msvcr80.dll? Can you please send me one of the (mini-)dump files of this (check C:\localdumps and c:\windows\minidump)? Can you zip some of them up and provide them through a Skydrive or https://www.transferbigfiles.com/ ?? |

I too am having the same problems with this Boinc. My PC is Windows 7, 64bit. I have a Intel i7 processor, with 2 gigs of Ram. Boinc_7.0.64_windows_x86_64. The program will run great, but no screen saver, and each time my PC has to reboot, boinc fails to "connect to host". I have to reinstall and repair the program, and then it works until my PC has to reboot again. I have ran the program under both the administrator and non-administrator account, it changes nothing. I do not have Microsoft Visual Studio installed. I do have Office 2010 installed. I do not have Microsoft SQL installed. Sorry, I could not find the (mini-)dump files of this (check C:\localdumps and c:\windows\minidump)Files you requested. I hope this info Helps you resolve this. Please let me know. Thanks, Joey2869 |

Can you post your Windows Event Viewer error of one of these crashes, please? Also, anything in the stderrdae.txt in the BOINC Data directory (Will be hidden, c:/programdata/boinc/)? |

I've occasionally seen this in various machines. I suspect that what happens is on the restart the O/S launches too many autostart and background tasks as once and the BOINC manager times out waiting for a response from the background task it launches. Obviously this gets worse after a crash as more protective scans may get launched. IIRC there is a way to force a delay for a autostart program in Windows with some edits. Something to try anyway. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/3-small-windows-freewares-delay-program-launch-startup/ To get you started in the right direction if you wish to play with this. |

I'm new to this forum, but have been using Boinc and Seti for awhile. I was using 7.0.28 with no issues for many months. I completed all work first. After I downloaded and installed 7.0.64, it started running. After I rebooted, it wouldn't start up; I didn't see the boinc manager at start up. I reinstalled and saw a "repair" option. I performed that and once again, it started running. After reboot, it again failed to load the boinc manager at start up. I uninstalled, reboot, then reinstalled, ensuring to use the Advanced option to allow any computer user to run sw. It started running. After reboot, the boinc manager loads, but doesn't connect to a client. I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit. Rick |

I located the stderrdae.txt file and it had nothing in it. |

Last night while operating as a limited user, I switched users to the Administrator. Boinc loaded OK, I believe. A Bionc Manger Select Computer dialog popped up. For Host Name, I selected "localhost" at which time a long password appeared in the password field. I clicked OK, and it started running. Switching back to limited user, the Bionc Manager loads, but never runs anything, a mouse-over in the system tray says "Not connected to client." I open Bionc Manager and I click on Select Computer, select localhost, no password shows, and I click OK. After about 10 seconds, a dialog box appears, Bionc Manager - Communication, and says, "Communicating with Bionc Client, Please wait..." then a new dialog pops up and says: "You currently are not authorized to manage the client. Please contact your administrator to add you to the 'bionc_users' local user group." This morning, I started up as Administrator. Boinc started normally and Seti started with no input from me. Logged off, switched to limited user, and Bionc still doesn't run. So, in my case, it appears its a permission issue or?? ~R |
