I am running two projects: Einstein (which is functioning correctly) and ClimatePrediction that hasn't given me a new task for a couple weeks. I've clicked "update project" every day and still get nothing.

What will "reset project" do? If that isn't what I should be doing, any other suggestions?

(I'm not techy, so talk "layman" for me so I understand."

Update gets the latest information from the project. For instance when you change your online preferences and want BOINC to know about them, you click Update.

Reset project will throw away all running, uploading, undone and ready to be reported work and all stock applications. It's a last resort for when things don't seem to work correctly, where you want to start with a clean slate. All applications and work will have to be downloaded anew then, and run from their individual starts.

BOINC works by giving all the projects you have added equal time to process their work, but based on resource share. CPDN models take a long time to finish, they will rack up a lot negative time that needs to be paid back again towards the other projects that you have added and that are allowed to fetch work.

Trying to force the project to give work by clicking Update won't do anything in this respect.

Thank you very much! I even understood some of what you were saying! (I think.) If I read this correctly, since I'm not running any climateprediction jobs - and haven't gotten any for weeks - I could reset without anything getting messed up, but that this might not be the problem.

I think you are telling me that I might be "paying back negative time." However, I don't understand anything about credits, negative time, paying back negative time, etc. I can't find anything in help to explain all these terms either. I would like to understand better - if there is a place to explain all this, I would be much obliged if you could give me a link.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry I didn't see this earlier.

Claire, your problem is that at the moment there are no ClimatePrediction models available. Here's the Server Status page:

http://climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/server_status.html

In addition, one of the servers is kaputt and I wouldn't be surprised if the programmers want to fix it before releasing a new batch of models.

In any case, our computers are only allowed to try to fetch new work from the CPDN server once per hour. That's to prevent the server being overwhelmed with requests. If you click the Update button to try to get your computer to make a request immediately I'm afraid it has the opposite effect - the countdown to connection with the server will be restarted at the full 60 minutes.

Thank you very much. I've bookmarked the Server Status page for future reference. I appreciate the time you've spent helping me determine my 'problem'.
