Today I installed BOINC 7.0.27 (as per the instructions in the sticky post at the top of this forum) on my laptop running Ubuntu 12.04. I've successfully opened the manager and connected tot he projects I am happily running on my Windows machine. I've verified that the data for at least one of them has downloaded. However, BOINC never begins actually running the data. I have set my preferences so that BOINC doesn't run while I'm using the machine, but it should start automatically after 3 minutes of idle time. It doesn't. It runs if I manually tell it "Run Always" but setting it to "Run according to Preferences" seems to disable it entirely. Does anyone know what setting one needs to adjust on Ubuntu so that boinc begins processing automatically when it should?

I think it's not because of a setting but the fact that BOINC (your OS?) isn't able to tell if your computer is idle or not. IIRC, there's always been such problems with (some) linux systems.

Boinc 7.0.29 has an idle detection fix for Linux:

Ahh, that would explain it. I'm not running a mouse other than the built in track pad, but this sounds like a likely explanation.

Thanks!
