Hi there,
Need help. My computer suffered a surge damage. Managed to rescue most programs but not the BOINC manager. Could not even run boinccmd line commands. SOme other programs are dead too, so I have to re-install Windows.
But, I already have several hundred hours of work done. I want to keep them and send them off once I have reinstalled the BOINC manager. How can I do this?

There's no telling if your data not also got zapped [You dont tell OS, version of client etc]. The data directory you can back up and then restore to the same location *prior* to reinstalling BOINC. If you used standard settings, the installer will find the data. Best you do this BOINC installing with the internet cable/LAN unplugged so the client does not inadvertently connect to the project server if it cant find the data and then the servers considering the work lost [You can point the installer at the location where the data is!]. Only when BOINC has found the data and continues where it left off, put the internet back on. Till then you can try as often as you like to get things in the right place.

Thanks for the message.

The OS is Windows 8 (64 bits). I saw that there is a Program Data directory, which contains a BOIC folder. Not sure if that is where the data is stored. If so, do I just back up this directory, then reinstall Windows, then restore the data directory, then reinstall BOIC manager?

Thanks again for directions.

Yes, it's the whole Boinc Data directory you need back up (including all sub folders), then reinstall Windows, restore the Boinc Data directory, then reinstall Boinc, pointing it at the Data directory location if you're moved it.
(Boinc Manager is only part of Boinc, it's the GUI, it only displays/controls what the Boinc client is doing)
