I was having trouble installing the linux version of boinc, when i found that the wiki page was a little outdated (http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Installing_BOINC_on_Ubuntu) sometimes you have to use: sudo aptitude and sometimes you have to use: sudo apt-get


I was having problems till I figured this out. Hope this will help others with the same problem
