Hello all,

I seem to be getting this error: Error -155: authentication error - every time I try and attach SETI@Home. Can anyone help me? I'm using this command:

boinccmd --project_attach http://setiathome.berkeley.edu Accountkeyhere

probably not running boinccmd as the correct user (if you've just issued the command and got that response
sudo !!
that reissues the last command with sudo - or if you've not got sudo privileges just issue it from root

just rechecked and the only way I can get that error is when trying to issue that command as an unprivileged user, issuing it when the boinc client isn't running results in an unable to connect to client message, and making an error in the account key just results in nothing. Sorry can't help you any further.

Hi There,

I am having a problem accessing my gui_rpc_auth.cfg file. It is locked, and under graphical interface in Fedora 16, I cannot read the file, nor do I know how to access it under terminal. Please let me know, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for reviving a old thread.
After encountering the same error when trying to attach projects through boinccmd,
I found that if gui_rpc_auth.cfg had the authentication string, error - 155 is endemic.
After removing the line, and restarting the client, no problems whatsoever.
Is this working as intended???.

Linux question not error related. Did not see anything close that would help.

I'm running Ubuntu(a flavor of debian, and I need instructions on how to install the SH file when I download the latest version of boinc. Any help would be appreciated.

I encountered the same error. To my knowledge gui_rpc_auth.cfg is empty by default if BOINC Manager is not installed (on a headless server, for example). Electing to manage BOINC remotely with passwords started the problem in my case, since that was when I added the password to the otherwise empty gui_rpc_auth.cfg. This was the case for both GUI-less Debian and Ubuntu Server.

What version of Ubuntu are you running? If 12.04, then the version of BOINC in the repositories is 7.0.27 and perhaps recent enough? That would allow you to install BOINC in a more typical way.
