One of the problems I, along with many others have is that when running Boinc on a laptop while user is using it causes the laptop to get really hot. So, I can either tune down the % usage during all operations to get it cooler or opt to keep it from running when I use it.

Solution: add a combined option: "while in use, use only X% of CPU"

I'll run 100% when not using but probably 50% while using the laptop.

What do you think "Use at most X% of CPU time" is for in the global preferences? The same option is found in BOINC Manager's local advanced preferences.

Nah, he wants the old wish-list item of different percentages for idle and in use. ;-)

That's still in the proposed remodeling list, with no timetable for completion.

I'd like a "BOINC Manager" ummm ... Manager. Or extra options?

a) Delay start of BOINC processing by 1/2/etc minutes. Required always. See a1, b1 below.
b) Option to display a countdown to the startup of BOINC manager AND an option to postpone by 1/2/etc minutes
c) Option to use x% of GPU when processing GPU-intensive tasks

Why?
Overall reason:-
For me, BOIC is a non-essential task for startup. It's not a need, it's an option to run after other essential work is finished.

Details ...

a1) because older PC's (single CPU core - multithreaded or not) will start up quicker if BOINC is not trying to start up and/or run tasks at startup AND this lets the PC cooling system "get over" high priority startup CPU tasks that temporarily increase load/temperatures. Also, shocking I know but I switch my PCs off when I'm done throughout the day. Then switch each back on when I want to do something important so startup is frequent.
b1) for flexibility ... e.g., I'm busy doing more important stuff (re-install / re-configure / full virus scan etc)
c1) to reduce power consumption and GPU temperatures to my liking

I know ...
a2) BOINC has a "don't run if CPU usage is y%" option but that does not seem to apply at startup in my experience. Also, where a low, e.g., 10% BOINC CPU preference is specified that process is fighting other more important, sub-y% (total) processes. Example - at startup, an automated backup runs on one PC that uses significantly less than y% but is considerably slowed if BOINC is running because an antivirus process running still under a y% total CPU usage checks every file backed up. Result - high CPU temperatures as each process stresses the CPU (flush cache) in order to complete it's own tiny task that, for crunching at this time is pretty irrelevant given the miniscule work that is actually achieved during startup.
b2) doesn't exist and I need it, please? Snooze is ineffective and unconfigurable.
b3) doesn't exist and I need it, please?

If I have missed any of these (automatic, configurable) options in BOINC manager or in the curent remodel proposal, please feel free to call me the Mr Spoons of 17/8/2011

What about
<start_delay>nseconds</start_delay>
Specify a number of seconds to delay running applications after client startup. New in 6.1.6

in cc_config.xml?
