Hi

I've recently updated to BOINC 6.12.33 (x64), under Windows 7, and now keep getting Visual C++ Runtime Library error "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way". Any help would be appreciated.

Which application?
Is it really the BOINC client that does this, or one of the project science applications?

Hi Jord

Thanks for responding.

The popup only shows "ProgramC:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects..." followed by the error messsage.

For information I have 2 projects, SETI@home and climateprediction.net

Regards

So it's one of the science applications doing that, since the path leads you to the projects directory. But you really have to figure out which one. It should be recorded in Windows Event Viewer (Start->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer, either Custom or Windows logs).

Is it happening at any specific time?
e.g. when your system comes out of hibernation, perhaps? Or when you move your mouse after some idle time? Or does it only happen when BOINC is running?
Have any of your tasks erred (check at project forums->your account->tasks) at the time of these errors? If so, with what error?

Hi Jordi

It's happening when BOINC is running during idle time on my PC, afraid I can't be more specific.

Looking at the logs, Windows/Applications, there's a log "A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (hadcm3n_graphics_6.07_windows_intelx86.exe)". Does this suggest it's an issue with CPDN?

Regards

Yes, that's a CPDN file - and since it's called 'graphics', and the problem happens during idle time, I think the finger points to a screensaver.

Might be best to disable the BOINC screensaver function until you're able to ask/read at CPDN.

Charlie,

Did your Windows receive a Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable update through Windows Update lately? Can you check up on that, please?
You can check that at Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update\View update history.

I am getting the same error. It seems to happen every time my computer becomes idle and BOINC tries to run. I tried downloading and installing the latest version of BOINC, which did not help.

I do not see any Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable update in the Windows Update history.

One of my 5 PCs has recently started doing this as well. It is a Windoze 7 64 bit, Q9650 + GTX570 based system and the error windows point to Climateprediction.net applications. I ALWAYS get 2 error windows, never any more and never any less. In my case it is not related to the screensaver since I choose not to use it.

My other 4 PCs all run XP 32bit, Q9550 or E6600 processors, GTX560 or GTX470 GPUs and Climateprediction.net but they run without errors.
