I have installed BOINC and it is running great. I created a new user account on this computer (Win7) and want BOINC to run with it also. I noticed when installing BOINC that there is an option for it to run with all user accounts but now that it is installed I cannot find that option. Is there a way to do it or will I have to reinstall it?

The option is only available in the installer, so you will have to uninstall BOINC and then reinstall it. The commands to give account permission are only done from within the installer.

Message 37892 - Posted: 19 May 2011, 21:05:58 UTC - in response to Message 37610.

I had been running the previous BOINC version across all users on my Windows 7 system. When I downloaded 6.12 I accidently forgot to set the "Allow all users..." option during installation. I later discovered my error, so I uninstalled BOINC and then re-installed, making sure to select the option. BOINC still does not run under the other users even though I set the option correctly during the second installation.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I uninstalled BOINC, then reinstalled it from within my personal account (running the 6.12.26 x64 installer with the admin p/w) and enabled the option for all user accounts. Everything installed just fine. I ran the BOINC manager within my personal account and the projects ran as expected. I then rebooted and relogged back into my personal account (which had just previously been fine running BOINC). I no longer could run the client, now getting the error "You currently are not authorized to manage the client." If I switch to the admin account then BOINC runs okay, but only there.

on my Windows 7 system.

Is that a Basic or Home version of Windows 7? If so, then the problem is known to the developers, a solution is coming, just taking a while. It may require them using a different --non-Microsoft-- installer.

I'm pretty sure that I solved this problem using the approach set out here. Note that you need to run the Command Prompt using an administrator account, i.e. either log on using an andminstrator account or right click the icon and choose "Run as administrator".

Thank you! Your instructions worked perfectly. My non-admin accounts can now run the BOINC science tasks in the background. I will save your link in case future BOINC releases have this installation problem.
