hello all,

im desperately trying to get my boinc running on my mac at work. for accessing the internet i have to set a proxy via a PAC file downloadable (hopefully also for you and not only within this network) at http://www.vu-wien.ac.at/proxy.pac

ive tryed several configuration methods and yesterday it seemed to work as it downloaded some work units from seti and rosetta, today it got stuck again with error 417 so i cant report or download work units.
is there a way to get it to run smoothly?
i created a cc_config.xml which i copied in every folder in the boinc app package, it contains the following

<cc_config>
<options>
<http_1_0>1</http_1_0>
<proxy_info>
<use_http_proxy>0|1</use_http_proxy>
[ <http_server_name></proxy.vu-wien.ac.at> ]
[ <http_server_port>80</3128> ]
</proxy_info>

</options>
</cc_config>

in addition to this i set the http proxy to proxy.vu-wien.ac.at port 3128 with no authentication as it is also not visible in the PAC file

thank you for your help in this special case..

Do you have permission from your immediate boss to run BOINC on your work computer? If you haven't, we're not going to help you get fired.

it is an university and they usually dont use a proxy or any restriction mechanism at all here, so this strange proxy thing is completely new to me, and there is definitely no restriction at all to run any program on these computers.

I wouldn't be so sure. Universities do block access to the internet, by either a firewall server or a proxy server, or both even.

You will have to take it up with the University's IT department first. When they do allow you to use BOINC, they will also tell you how to set up the proxy settings within BOINC. These are normally settings that they know all about, whereas we can only guess.

In the mean time, I do want to remind you of BOINC's usage rules:
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Usage_rules

Run BOINC only on authorized computers

Run BOINC only on computers that you own, or for which you have obtained the owner's permission. Some companies and schools have policies that prohibit using their computers for BOINC-based projects.
