Error reading setup input file is outputted, when attempting to install BOINC rev 06.10.58.

History: I have uninstalled rev. 06.10.36, purged the registry, & deleted the BOINC folder, in the Program Files folder.

Rec'd FAQ from Jordan, and followed-through, by deleting internet temp. files,
etc. New download of 6.10.58 resulted in a Windows Installer window being
outputted to screen, w/mess: The Windows Installer Service could not be
accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.
etc.

I downloaded/attempted to install another Windows Installer 4.5. even though
there is one in my system. Error mess. resulted: Setup Error: Not enough
storage is available to process this command.

Any other ideas?

Reregister the Windows Installer. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555175

By the way, certain virii and spyware are known to disable the windows installer. You may want to scan your system with an up-to-date AV (or other anti malware) package.

Hi. Problem solved, with successful installation of rev. 6.10.58

A little info., on developments, after last mess., from you.

Firstly, thanks, for your suggestions, during this trouble-shooting
exercise. Everything on my system seemed to check out, okay (Windows
Installer, msi.dll, paths, etc.).

Secondly, I tried, for the first time, to install a much older BOINC rev.
6.10.18, which was successful. Feeling a log-jam might have been broken,
I followed up with a fresh down-load/install, of 6.10.58, which was, also,
successful.

Lastly, although I'm still not sure what the cause of all this really was,
nor what actually caused the success, with 6.10.18 (unless, it was inherent
w/that rev.), I'll just pass on one (of many actions I took, via Microsoft
Support, etc.): In the registry, I checked the ImagePath of the MSIServer.
The Value Data was: %systemroot%\system3\msiexec /V. I changed it, per
their suggesion, to C:WINDOWS\system32\msiexec /V.

A reboot after performing some other necessary ops.) resulted in the same
inablity to install BOINC. However, a (security pgrm) finger-entry op.
had become inoperative. I went back into the registry, and changed it back
to its original Value Data. A reboot yield the same failures, w/both pgrms.

Finally, the install op. with 6.10.18 was done. A reboot resulted in not only
the BOINC rev's successful op., but, more importantly, the Finger-op. was, also,
restored. I don't begin to know the various ways the installers affect each
other, and this was in the "go figure" category. Am glad all is well, once,
again.

And, again, thanks, for the help, and for sharing with me a walk down debug lane.

Jim M.
