Message 34198 - Posted: 14 Aug 2010, 6:49:06 UTC

Hi, I'm new to the Boinc program and I am curious as to what I am supposed to do with the tasks that are "ready to report." Do I have to upload them manually or will they be uploaded automatically? Also, what happens when all of my tasks are completed? Will I receive more tasks and/or projects without having to do anything, or will i have to find some to download? thanks for the help.

When you're done with a task in BOINC, it uploads the data that is has collected to a directory on the project's server. Then a notice has to be sent to the database that you have finished this task with whatever outcome you had, be it that you finished it correctly, had an error or aborted it.

This notice is the "ready to report" part.
BOINC will do this automatically in 24 hours, but if you can't wait that long, open BOINC Manager, Advanced view, Projects tab, select the project the task is from and press the Update button. That reports the tasks that are ready to report immediately.

For BOINC 5.8 and above: Completed work is reported at the first of:

1) 24 hours before deadline
2) Connect Every X before deadline.
3) 24 hours after task completion.
4) Immediately if the upload completes later than either 1, 2, or 3 upon completion of the task.
5) On a trickle up message (CPDN only, I believe).
6) On a trickle down request.
7) On a server scheduled connection.
8) On a request for new work.
9) When the user pushes the update button.
10) On a request from an account manager.

BOINC will also download new work when it finds there's not enough left in cache to get through the time set by the "Connect to server" and "Additional days of work" buffers.

Hi! I am trying to upload my WU's and they are all pending. When I select update now, it says communication deferred. All my seti/astropulse projects are complete.

I would like to upload these, and they just keep retrying. I am running 6.10.58 of the Boinc manager. Seti version is 6.09 and Astropulse is v505 5.05.

I have disabled my McAfee firewall just to make sure and I still get the same problem. Earliest deadline for completion is 9/12 on one of the projects.

9/2/2010 7:32:17 PM SETI@home update requested by user
9/2/2010 7:32:17 PM SETI@home Fetching scheduler list
9/2/2010 7:32:19 PM SETI@home Master file download succeeded
9/2/2010 7:32:25 PM SETI@home Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
9/2/2010 7:32:25 PM SETI@home Requesting new tasks for CPU and GPU
9/2/2010 7:32:28 PM SETI@home Scheduler request failed: Couldn't connect to server
9/2/2010 7:32:33 PM Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
9/2/2010 7:32:34 PM Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

Can anyone help?

From the Seti front page News:

Weekly Outage and Initial Catch Up
Every Tuesday morning (Pacific time) we begin a 3 day data distribution outage to focus on science processing and development plus any needed systems maintenance. The upload/download servers will be offline during this time. The web site (including the forums) will only be offline during the database maintenance and backup portion of the outage. On Friday, you may experience connectivity issues as the servers catch up with demand.

They'll be back later today, around 9am Californian time.
