I leave my computer on 24/7 most of the time, to allow BOINC to run, but occasionally need to reboot it. Although I have checked the checkbox in Options to "Run Manager at login" (many times), it keeps losing that setting when I reboot. I've had this problem before, though not for a long time, and I don't remember how it got resolved.

Just in case, I just installed the latest version (6.10.58) and tested it by rebooting, but it's still losing the setting. I'm running this on Windows Vista Home Premium. It's driving me a little nuts because if I don't catch it when I reboot, I wind up leaving my computer on overnight for nothing (since BOINC isn't running).

Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug? Thanks in advance for help with this.

I'm still hoping for a response about this problem. If other visitors to this board don't know the answer to this, where can I submit a bug report?

Thanks.

Do you shut down Boinc before you reboot?

Do you have administrator rights when you set the option?

Thanks for replying. No to Claggy, and Yes to Gundolf Jahn.

Claggy, I'll try exiting properly this time and see what happens, and let you know.

Okay, here's what I found. When I shut down BOINC separately and then reboot (with the box checked to start up on login), it *does* start up after it reboots. Then, following a hunch, I rebooted *without* shutting BOINC down first and lo and behold, it started up automatically after reboot! I think what happens is that if you change that setting, it needs to be shut down properly before rebooting; otherwise it doesn't hold the changed setting.

I had been installing some stuff a while back, and I had shut off the automatic startup until after I had all the new installations done. But when I tried to change the setting back, I had only just rebooted (not shut BOINC down first), so it wasn't holding the changed-back setting. However, once the change is "solidified" by shutting down BOINC first with the changed setting, it seems to hold it even if you don't shut down BOINC first on subsequent reboots. (Does that make sense?) It's possible there might be some variations too (like just shutting down BOINC with the changed setting and then restarting BOINC manually without having to reboot).

So the bottom line is: if you're going to change the setting, shut down BOINC separately before your next reboot, or else it won't hold the changed setting.

Thanks Claggy for the tip about this! It wouldn't have occurred to me to check that.
