Message 30821 - Posted: 5 Feb 2010, 16:56:24 UTC

I am running BOINC manager 6.10.18 under Windows 7 64-bit connected to climateprediction.net and SETI@home. The former has two tasks in the Computation Error state and the latter three task Ready to report. Neither seem to want to communicate with their sites - communication gets deferred repeatedly. Hence my work on BOINC related projects has ceased as the computer seems unable to report completed projects and get new work. Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?

Yes, reboot ;-)

If you already did and need further help, please provide more information; at least the exact error messages, better add the top 20 lines of the BOINC manager Messages tab after a restart.

Gruß,
Gundolf

cpdn's servers are have been OK for a while.
Please post on the cpdn BOINC users forum so that we can look at your computers/models.

Just we you think it's safe to ...

One of the cpdn uploaders (cpdn-upload1.comlab) is now down, as is the Transitioner.

It's early AM there now, but perhaps 'Murphy' couldn't sleep.

At least no error messages ;-)

However, it would be easier to diagnose if there would be any. :-)

What is the content of the Status column in the Projects tab of the manager?

Can you find any telltale messages in the project properties? I can't tell exactly for what to look, because I still run BOINC 5.10.45, but I would expect something like "offset" or "delay".

That looks like an access rights problem.

Try a reinstall of BOINC, including reboot, to get the BOINC users/groups set up correctly.

I now have no tasks at all.

That was to be expected after a reset. What's weird is that no new tasks are requested.

Did you try an Update in Projects tab after the reset?[/edit]

I did try updating. BOINC is now hanging in some way - the manager doesn't seem to be seeing the client. I'm wondering whether I should uninstall and reinstall the client.

Thanks, I uninstalled and reinstalled before reading your message. However, suddenly things sprang to life! I now have four tasks executing (I have a quad-core machine). I'll see what happens and if I have more problems, will follow your advice.

BOINC worked fine till SETI@Home completed, then there were the same issues. Update caused BOINC to stop running completely. I followed the advice above and completely removed BOINC, installing it in protected mode/service. This seems to have solved the problem.

Thanks for your help.
