Message 62529 - Posted: 11 Jun 2015, 17:02:43 UTC - in response to Message 62506.

Something for Fred that bugs me: Have 4 clients in the net. When restarting BT on the controlling host, all remote histories of completed results recover properly per the settings [remove history after 120 days],

History is kept here: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\eFMer\BoincTasks\history

3 files / computer the sequence is rotating.
If one file is corrupt it takes the next one and so on. So you may want to exit BoincTasks and delete all 3 files of that computer.

Too large is just a message that it's getting lager than I feel comfortable with.
On a 64 bit machine the file should be able to get huge, but dangerous....

Best to Check move to Long term history after 7 days. That way frequent data is in a small data cache and the bigger one is accesses less frequently.

Whenever you decrease the history length, it will delete entries over time and with such a big history it may take a while to delete all entries that are no longer needed.

Thx, looked and found the particular device histories, regular 3 plus 3 'long' had a last modified date of 4.11.2014. Deleted them. The 'backup' subfolder to that is empty [it says in the settings it's not recommended to use]. Ticked the option, exited, started and when going to the history tab for the localhost, the pop up said the history is too big ": Now 12188"?, and then presents a blank screen. In the history folder there are no new files created for localhost. The backup folder contained files for the 3 remotes, but not the localhost. What am I doing wrong?

Go to the history tab and press on the ? Button, should explain most of it.
Do not check the last checkbox, because it will introduce a lot of overhead.

Preferred setting:

Smart mode check.
Minimum update time 60 for the more recent BOINC clients.
Maximum update time 240 for the more recent BOINC clients.
Move to long term history after 2 days preferred.

Next let BoincTasks run for a couple of hours, it will take some time to move things around with such a large amount of data.

Thx again. Set those suggested preference last night, exited BT and loaded. Blank history for the LH. This morning the remotes all had their history nicely reduced to 2 days. The LH showed a dozen completed, exited BT, loaded again... blank. No csv files for the LH. No warnings this time either about a big history.

Just wonder where it is/was writing the csv files to, if not the history folder where the remotes are stored. Did a full scan of disk, but nothing revealed itself.

Frust.

P.S. Started BT on a remote machine to monitor this LH. The history is blank after a restart, so it's something it seems specific to this machine. BOINC on all are installed as service.

Go to the Expert tab.
The check (not checked normally) Override default .... shows the currently used location for the storage.

It may be that BoincTasks doesn't have right to write in that folder.

Think I know why now... spaces in the device names and or forward slashes. E.g.

Start logging

13 June 2015 - 00:01:47 CHistory::WriteFile ---- Unable to write to history file: C:\Users\YeahRightIShowThat\AppData\Roaming\eFMer\BoincTasks\history\history_PC02_3254349/2790656/2497409.cvs

The bold bit is how I entered the name into BT. It's a multi-boot, so the device has multiple ID#s. The numbers to remind me which they are when looking at the projects' result status pages.

Also when I tried changing the path to a place where the directory had a space in the name it only showed the path up to the space and then refused to save this.

Now that I know, tested various permutations, and history for the LH is saving now, both on the LH and from the remote [after changing the computing name as entered in BT to same].

Edit: So after renaming the LH computer to

PC02_3254349_2790656_2497409

a file is created as

history_PC02_3254349_2790656_2497409.csv

OK you got me, that is not something I had expected a slash in the computer name..
That explains a lot.

There's a new bug, or at least not noticed this before. Remote client v. 6.2.28 exclusively running WCG's Help Fight Childhood Cancer version 6.10. Those running in this duo show the right version number, those ready to start show 0 as version.

But is this a BoincTasks only error.

I hope not. You answered to a post dated 12 Oct 2009. Looks like your cookie of the thread-progress was reset as well and you started at the front page. ;-)

A feature request [may lack original thought]

I put in a request to add this to the BOINC client, but no luck so far.

Did you do this request through Github Issues? If not, please put it there.

Maybe another bug. I've noticed a few times that the BM preference interface is showing the website device prefs for the daily scheduled connects as they were originally and not the local overrides. I've put them back again. The fact that all clients, local and remote are doing this in perfect sync suggests BT is forcing this.

Normally all computers follow the setting from the Seti@Home preference webpage, that is also the easiest way to go.

If you are using BoincTasks cloud:

Please deactivate BoincTasks cloud as it is interfering with out new server.

Seti.nl moved to a new server that is unable to handle BoincTasks cloud, so please switch it off as soon as possible.
The requests of several BoincTasks cloud users even overloaded the server, so we had to blackhole the requests. Still these requests causes elevated resource usage on the server.
So PLEASE SHUT it DOWN: BoincTasks Extra->BoincTasks Settings -> Cloud and remove the check at "Cloud enable".

We will be back on a new server as soon as possible.
