Message 40873 - Posted: 28 Oct 2011, 10:37:29 UTC - in response to Message 40847.

Just to say that BT on Ubuntu 11.10 (Ocelot) shows to work awesomely and can now (I could not before on previous Ubuntu's) be expanded to the full width of the screen.

What I did after installing this clean implementation with OpenGL and full bells GUI 3.2 Gnome:

1. Installed Wine 1.3+Winetricks from the Software centre which is better than Synaptic since the USC will include any pieces it needs in addition.
2. Downloaded v1.24 of BT
3. Opened Nautilus (with sudo to be sure all admin rights applied)
4. looked up the installer, right clicked for pop up menu and picked the winetricks option.
5. Let the installer run and when it asked at the end if a Windows, said no, if Linux said yes and when asked to create a desktop Icon it did (enabled in Gnome/Unity).

Launched and instantly got a running BT without to oldies known Windows 3.0 experience of a window in a window, basically now showing as a native app. It even shows an systray icon on the panel bar and BT being allowed for the window to be closed, continuing to run. The systray icon giving some controls including snooze and open and when mouse hovering presenting the gadget pop-up with all running tasks.

What I had to do for the remote devices was to explicitly enter port 31416 in the computers tab for each. UFW was set open for that port, but somehow that was not enough.

In short, with Linux have a fine fine running BT, no different in the way it shows on Windows, and this version of Wine (1.3) it runs in using very little CPU time. This screenshot with both the BT expanded and gadget view on Gnome 3.2 for an impression of the slick appearance.

2 thumbs up.

P.S. of course, after all this praise [Ratelband 'chacka' motivational], a feature enhancement request :D. Could the network toolbar buttons be made working in all views, at least the tasks and messages view and also a button add to let network run always, overriding the scheduler. Those toolbar buttons (run per schedule and suspend network) have been great additions to fast upload/fetch work.

Just found that the network per schedule and network suspend work also work in the tasks view, long as the host is selected in the left margin. Sorry for missing that bit (don't know how :-)

Even though it seems to work, it will properly function in V 1.26.

You know that your can drag the toolbars to another location.
E.g. you can place them all next to each other.
It is now possible to adjust the width of the computer bar by just adjusting the right border.

Here's a bug I've been able to replicate with BT 1.27 in combination with 6.13.12 BC development:

In BT go to a project tab and select one that is suspended and work fetch stopped as well [double safety]. I forgot to select the correct project first and in the example the ABC project was the one at top! There's no work in progress/cache for said. Then resume work fetch and hit update, the project is still suspended! The client sends an update call and fetched 40 tasks. Abort these, hit update again, and these get reported combined with a fetch of 40 more.

Open the BOINC Manager and verify that project is still suspended [it was]. Abort the tasks there and hit update. No work fetch follows. [no work requested is logged]

Where the bug is, in BT or the core client, I did not try to ascertain, but if a project is suspended and update is hit, work is fetched when done through BT.

Maybe, if switching to projects tab, all projects could be auto-deselected first, so an accidental execution of an update is avoided. I should have selected another project that had only it's work fetch stopped but was not suspended. (For whatever reason the previously selected project is not remembered when returning to the project tab and switches back to the one at top of the alphabet?)

I'm pretty sure this is a feature of the Core Client itself, nothing to do with BoincTasks.

I've just replicated the first part of this report (request - and receive - new tasks for a suspended project) on a simple, stand-alone v7.0.2 installation, using the native BOINC Manager alone.

Reported to boinc_alpha.

Say Fred, I have 16GB of ram in My PC and yet BoincTasks still only shows 8GB physical and 15.99GB virtual, is there a reason this won't go up? I'm just curious. Yes I'm using v1.29 of BT.

With some help, I fixed the problem, I had to rearrange two dimms, 1 and 3, then that problem went away.

Now to the next, I renamed My PC and yet the tab for computer in BT still says pc1.

Hey Fred, since You made TThrottle and I'm using 5.50, two of My gpus are reading 0.0C and this isn't limited to TThrottle, the MSI Afterburner program also says somethings amiss, It can see the gpu usage across all 6 gpus, just not the gpu temp of 3 & 4(TThrottle 2 & 3, MSI starts at 1, You start at 0), I'm running Win7 Pro x64, Nvidia WHQL driver 285.62 x64 for the 3 GTX295 cards, multi-gpu is enabled on the 1st card, but not on the 2nd as I don't have a sli cable yet, If I could I'd raise the IOH & ICH pci-e voltage from wherever it is to 1.6v, as when I go to multi-gpu on the 1st two cards & only the the two cards(this does not apply to the 1st card when It's in multi-gpu by itself), I get a video driver crash(with a monitor on the 2nd card or a dummy plug, doesn't matter), but of course on the Asus P7P55D Pro has no such voltage adjustment available in the Bios & I have the latest too, It'd be nice If I could raise It from Windows and see what It is in real time.

Note: This would also happen in Vista Business x64 too, the driver there was 290.53 Beta, although the temp problem didn't occur.
