Hi there,

I recently got a new computer and promptly installed Bonic (with Seti@Home). However, when I closed the Bonic Manager because I wanted to stop computation so that I could play a game, the Manager closed, but the computation continued. On my laptop, when I close the Manager, the computation stops. I am just wondering if this is a glitch and how I can solve this issue. My new system is running Vista 64 bit, if that helps.

If this is the case, then you're running it in protected mode (the old "service mode").
When you shut down "boinc", all you're doing is shutting down the display part, not the hidden worker part. (The daemon).

Use the option in Advanced: Shut down connected client... before shutting down the gui.

This is explained in the FAQ, which is linked from the Download page on this web site.

the Manager closed, but the computation continued.

The manager just shows what the client is doing. It doesn't do any computation itself. When you turn off your screen, it doesn't turn off your computer, does it? :)

From the Activity menu, select "Suspend computation". Or, if you also need RAM and you want BOINC to actually quit, from the Advanced menu, select "Shut down connected client".
