Hi,

I'm a first time user and keep getting the message (in simple view) that boinc is “Unable to contact core client”. I’ve tried versions 5.10.30 and 5.8.16 and both give this error. (I’m running winXP with a AMD Athlon dual core) Anybody able to help?

Thanks.

This is a problem when you don't allow (all parts of) BOINC through your firewall software. BOINC needs to be able to communicate on port 31416 between its parts of boinc.exe, boincmgr.exe and boinc.scr (the daemon, the GUI and the screen saver).

So try to put BOINC in the DMZ of your firewall software first.
