I noticed today that one file upload from FAAH got stuck. I have been running a bittorrent client, and as a result of this, my browser also has downloads of some pages get stuck, especially in Yahoo mail. Other programs that communicate over the Net seem to be unaffected, and today is the first problem that I've noticed with BOINC. The stuck download stayed on the Transfers tab all day, even though some later tasks would have finished and uploaded. The "Retry now" button was ineffectual, until I set "Network activity suspended" and then clicked "Retry now", at which point the file uploaded immediately.
An unusual event, hard to replicate and probably hard to fix. Merry Christmas!

Cant recollect this having been reported at WCG. [quote]
(I only reported it here at BOINC: until they recently dropped their support of their UD client, I got the feeling that BOINC was a 2nd-class citizen at WCG)
Would be helpful to also see the log messages and anything after activating some debug flags in the cc_config.xml. As you surmised it could be hard to replicate so any information is helpful.
That said, the file could have gotten locked during a glitchy transmission.

I just saved the Messages log, which covers the events. I haven't looked, but there didn't seem to be anything useful in it at the time. I could email it (149k). It is unlikely that I can replicate the problem, as it occurred during a session where I downloaded several GB of data with uTorrent - a one-off.

As you said, glitchy transmission would be the likely cause. More info: I was having much worse browser problems until I fiddled with the MTU settings in my ADSL2+ modem/router and computer at the suggestion of Netgear, the modem's maker. Apart from downloads hanging, the browser would sometimes display HTML source instead of content, but more tellingly, it would occasionally display text fragments of stuff associated with the concurrent uTorrent session. No problems noticed then with BOINC tho.

I think it would be possible to improve BOINC's behaviour logic in cases like this: uploads subsequent to the stuck one succeeded without hanging the client, so there should be no harm in automatically cancelling and re-trying the stuck one a couple of times before giving up on it. You'd probably have to simulate the bug to test your workaround.

As to my closing greeting, try: Please accept my Season's gift (of the bug-report).
