Many people have suggested the creation of an 'auto-shutdown on checkpoints' add-on.

What if I'm in the computer browsing the net, reading the news and maybe listening to music while waiting for the next checkpoint to shutdown the PC and go to bed [my father doesn't like to leave PCs on at night - that's why we have to turn them off]?

With a checkpoint alarm, I wouldn't be surprised of an automatic shutdown and I could finish reading the last news that I was reading before the checkpoint!

Note: it would also be usefull that this same add-on paused the BOINC running tasks until next boot, so as to speed the shutdown process.

What do you think?

If notification on a checkpoint was possible, it would be only a tiny step more to make it automatically shutdown too.

Where the Nobel price often goes to multiple winners for independently coming to same discovery, regret to inform you that others requested the feature ahead of you.

There is the new idle/pause feature which you can set in the override file. Set it to e.g. 20 minutes and allow power savings to let the PC go to sleep or standby. It should resume on awakening at the same point. Sleep/Standby uses like 10 watts or you can invoke hibernation which is zero watts. Tested it on Vista and it works great.

I don't know that feature, but from what I understand, it doesn't work for me, because with dual-boot, sleep and standby don't work.
