I searched this topic and found nothing.

I am running BOINC on two new Vista Core 2 Duo computers and two old XPHome PIII computers.

When I saw something about problems with the screen savers, there was the note to check to see if the poster had the latest drivers for his video card.

In my case, the screen savers run on one Vista machine and not the other; and, on one much older PIII machine and not the other.

The older PIII machine is about 5 years old, and is a laptop. So, the video is probably on a chip, not even a card, and it probably does not have its own DRAM. Yet, BOINC's screen savers run fine.

So, the video driver question does not answer all cases.

I want to use the screen savers. They are gorgeous. I know that some of the people frown on that, but, hey, I am lending 4 computers to the effort, 6 CPU's.

On the one Vista machine which will not run screen savers, I put WCG back on UD, because those screen savers run fine. UD is good until some time in the second quarter of 2008, which probably means June.

So, for me, there is time to get this bug out of the way. And, 6. is supposed to be all set for Vista.

But I want it known that the video driver thing is not all there is to the question of screen savers.

Display chips on motherboards ALSO use video drivers.
So they CAN be updated.

Progress on the screen saver front:

On one of my computers which would not run the screen savers, I got a notice of an update to the video driver from nVidia. I updated the driver. So far, so good. So far (notice the hesitancy) no blinking, no black screen, .

I figured I would look for updated drivers for my two older PIII machines. Sure enough, I found updates from about 2006 for both. One of those machines had been running BOIC screen savers, the other had not. I updated both drivers. Everything seems to be fine on both.

So, now I am running a total of six tasks on four machines (2 are dual core, and I have screen savers on all.
