For no obvious reason, on one of four computers running BOINC, this one, in fact, BOINC just does not start upon
boot up.

This has been for only two days.

I am running 5.8.16 on a Vista computer as a single user. On my other Vista computer, BOINC is running fine, and on my two XP computers BOINC is running fine.

Once, I uninstalled and re-installed. Then, it ran fine until re-boot.

Any ideas out there?

It's a rights issue. The only way around is to install BOINC as a service and then to start BOINC Manager by hand, not automatically from the Startup folder as Vista doesn't like it when programs start that do not have administrative rights.

It's going to be fixed with BOINC 6.0, but until that one shows up, use the above workaround.

Thanks for your response. I am surprised, though, by your reply.

I have been running BOINC sucessfully on this Vista computer and another Vista computer for months with no problems.

See this thread then. It'll go into these problems in more dept.

Some people have problems with it, others don't until one day they also have problems with it, apparently without changing anything. But perhaps Windows took in something you had no view on.

It looks like I have 5.10.20 working O.K. on my troubled Vista machine. I uninstalled BOINC, shut down UAC, re-installed 5.10.20 as a single user.

I sure hope that this stays up.
