Has anyone installed any version of BOINC on a Windows 2008 core server?

If so, what software and how?

If not, anyone have suggestions?

Thanks,

Jax

Since this OS isn't out yet (with a release date of 27 February 2008), you must be talking about an Alpha or Beta version of the OS. In any such cases you will have stability problems.

But BOINC wise... why not test it? The 6.0 version which is upcoming in the next couple of months might be able to run on it without problem, but as said, that's best tested on the finished product.

I am trying to test on the RC0 version.

The Windows version will not install. It stops with an error about IE 5 not being present.

Is there a command line version of a client for the Windows platform?

Since there is very little overhead with the core install, I am wondering how it would perform.

Thanks,

Jax

The Install Shield installer needs a minimum of Internet Explorer 5.0 to open the package. Although you may want to try to go around that by adding /a to the end.

So then, from the command line, type boinc_5.10.21_windows_intelx86.exe /a (that includes the space). And if that doesn't work, unpack/install BOINC on another computer and just copy or move BOINC over to the Windows 2008 Core computer.

Mind, if you use the /a option and it works, then BOINC will not be installed. It'll just be unpacked into two directories: one called Program Files and one called Windows.

The Windows directory contains the BOINC.scr file (screen saver). Copy this file to C:\Windows for Windows 98, SE, ME, XP or C:\WINNT for Windows NT or 2000.

The Program Files directory contains a sub-directory called BOINC. Copy that to anywhere you like. Or use it from that spot.
