I recently sat down and put a few major events in BOINC history onto paper, and I then realized that this would be a good thing to share. So I created an article in the Unofficial BOINC wiki on [[BOINC History]].

It is of course incomplete, so perhaps others would care to add to it? We really should get references to each project turned into wiki links, and perhaps also add references, in the form of links to the project news feeds? Anyway, it's a start...

Seti@Home started the same month as Predictor did.

I thought SETI@Home started in 1999.

It's a wiki, so feel free to edit...

Seti Classic started in 1999, it was a stand-alone program that had nothing to do with BOINC. It ended in December 2005.

Seti@Home in its present form started on June 22nd 2004.

As for editing the wiki, I don't have a log-in and am not going to make one either. :-)

That's fine. Thank you for the information. I'll make sure it gets into the wiki, and you don't need to worry about getting an account there.

(Just as people who report bugs should not be required to get an account on Trac.)

Yes, very interesting. I only started with BOINC in June 2005, so I didn't know about this at all. Thanks.

I guess links to any wiki don't work here now? [[BOINC History]] no longer produces a link.

I’ve noticed that on a couple of other projects that have recently updated their BOINC back-ends. :( I don’t know whether the feature is broken or was deliberately removed, but I suspect the latter because the BBCode Tags pages (where I found out about it in the first place) no longer mention it.

I suspect that David removed the code thinking that the Unofficial Wiki is best no longer used for these kinds of things, everyone should move stuff to Trac and the Wiki there. Hence the new BBCode trac tags.

[trac]wiki:BOINC History[/trac] gives a page not found. So someone best move the page to the 'correct' Wiki. Don't look at me. ;-)
