I realise that the boinc_dev forum isn't for project news and that this has nothing to do with boinc manager, but CPDN has a server problem that's turning out to be more serious for members than we first thought. So we need this to be seen by as many people as possible. As soon as the problem's been resolved, one of us will post to say that the whole thread can be deleted.

The cpdn independent forum hosted on an Open University server in Milton Keynes is down. It's the middle link here
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_menu.php
The other two links are to the cpdn-boinc forums which are unaffected.

The Climateprediction website is also hosted at the Open Uni and can't be reached. But the link I've given will take you directly to the CPDN-boinc forum.

The website and independent forum outage will not affect models, trickles, uploads or downloads or credits.

However, Astro's discovered that while the Milton Keynes server is down it's impossible to attach to ClimatePrediction. The 'Attach' command from the computer to Oxford is routed through the MK server and at the moment can't get through. It may also be impossible to detach from cpdn at the moment, but I'm not going to test this.......

Milo has had no indication yet from the Open University about what is wrong with their server.

Please feel free to copy this post to team forums etc.

ROFL! So nobody else needs to detach from CPDN to test whether it works.......

That's a shame - you just deleted the funny part of your post!

Merci bien.

Unfortunately, the cpdn-boinc forum is almost dead which means that people who need to get there aren't finding it - they'll be trying through the main website which is down. I've posted on all the other cpdn forums and on 3 stats sites, so I don't know what more we can do.

On the other hand, the cpdn Forum button in boinc manager goes directly to the functioning forum.

On one previous occasion the MK Open Uni server was down for about six weeks.....

Somebody must have been working over the weekend. The Open Uni server is now functioning again. So the independent forum is open and it's again possible to attach to CPDN. Hope nobody's been seriously inconvenienced.

Could this thread please be left until about Wednesday and then completely deleted. Thanks.

De-stickying will be good enough. Don't delete; old forum posts have historical value ;)

I wasn't about to delete it anyway. Locking is a much finer option. Unless it's SPAM, but that would mean we'd have to ban Maureen. ;-)

Nee!!! Genoeg ist genoeg!

Just when Milo probably thought he'd have a better-than-expected Monday morning, with the Milton Keynes problem sorted, one of the mods has PM'd him to say he's had a 'No space left on device' message which means one of the Oxford servers has filled up.....

Excellent opportunity to check which versions of boinc say 'device' in OldBoincSpeak and which say 'server' in NewBoincSpeak.

I've got a self-compiled version 5.10.22 for Windows (32bit) that was made with source code after David purportedly put it in. If anyone wants to test it. I am not attached to CPDN.

I'll go pack it in and put it on my website... be back for the link.
Got two versions. A 7zip one and a zip one. No installer. Just stop BOINC, unpack the files into your BOINC directory and tell Yes to overwrite the old files, restart BOINC. Also works on service installs. And any next time you uninstall/upgrade, the old files will be removed without problem.

BOINC 5.10.22 7zip (2,615KB)
BOINC_5.10.22 ZIP (4,009KB)

(renamed to lower characters, now the links will work, hopefully.)

For CPDN members - does not apply to beta, BBC or SAP.

Milo says the problematic server is up and running again 'for the moment'. My own zip file that couldn't upload has just uploaded. So boinc network activity can be allowed again.

But until the new server is delivered and installed in Oxford it would be a good idea to

* Check your boinc manager Transfers window regularly to ensure that no file is stuck there unable to upload

* Check your boinc manager messages each day if you can. If you have an up-to-date version of boinc, messages indicating a problem will be coloured red

* Check the news thread on one of the ClimatePrediction forums regularly. Don't rely on this thread in the boinc_dev forum - we only started this thread in an extreme situation so it is NOT a place for regular CPDN news. Get to the CPDN forums from here

The CPDN independant forum seems to be down again. Most likely this will be rebooted on Monday when it can be rebooted (the forum is hosted at Milton Keynes by the Open University).

The CPDN project forums are still active, and can be reached via the top and bottom links on the following page (http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/forum_menu.php).
