stable versions for linux?

when can we expect an stable version for linux for the equivalent windows version?

The stable version is 5.8.16, but if you mean a stable 5.10 version, that's when Berkeley can find someone with time to compile one for testing. The person who did develop the Linux versions has dropped off the face of the earth, so it's all down to Rom Walton to do that as well now. He's also busy with the Windows versions and lots of other things.

I've got 11 boxes of various different flavours running the latest self-compiled SVN code without any problems. So if you feel adventurous you can try compiling your own client.

I hope you don't mind me asking how did you get it compiled? I tried to compile latest 5.10 branch and it stuck being unable to link stuff regarding sandbox. I even didn't realize that sandbox applied to Linux also, I thought it was for Mac OS X only ...

G'day Metod

I don't specify any versions to compile - so at the moment they are compiling as 5.11.0. I haven't had any build errors for quite a while, try compiling without specifying 5.10 and see if that alters things. If you are still having problems PM me and I'll help as best I can - I'm no expert but through persistence I've got the code compiling on Gentoo, FC6 and Xbuntu

I tried with my Mepis 6.5 Linux to compile the latest at the time and found I only needed to download and extract extra and extra libs from places I didn't know.

So I gave up trying to compile BOINC in my Linux. I wrote most of the help for compiling it in Windows though. Way easier... once you know your way around there. And no need for root every 2 minutes.

Hmmm ... I just retried to compile my own BOINC CC and now I succeeded. The successful compilation was done using GCC 3.4.4 on Debian Sarge i686 and using GCC 4.1.2 on Debian Etch x86_64.

Previously I was using ICC and it still fails while trying to do some IPO over sandbox functions. It also failed when compiling using GCC on Debian Lenny x86_64 but I tried some fairly aggressive optimisation flags, so this might be the same problem.

It still bothers me that I can't compile it using ICC 8.1 as it was perfectly possible at least until version 5.10.7.

Maybe Cruncher can help you out there, sorry I just stick to the vanilla instructions.
