Message 11956 - Posted: 6 Aug 2007, 15:27:32 UTC

I have boinc running on my win2k and on my debian(linux) computers. The win2k computer is running boinc just fine. But, my debian is running it in the backround. That in itself is fine, but I do not have a screensaver for it and I do not see the boinc icon in the corner.

Two is I am having issues with the fact that I can not install software from the web. The only software that I am able to install if from there install program (I am on another computer winXP, so I do not know the name of that program specifically). But, I am going to contact debian people about that issue. But, I thought I would mention it here two.

Any help would be appreciated.

BOINC only has a screen saver for Windows and Mac OS X. Not for Linux. (Mind, some science applications do show the graphics through the "show Graphics" button in Boinc Manager!)
As for having an icon in the system tray, that's also only on Windows (as far as I know). Depending on how you set up BOINC, it's either running as a daemon or you start it by starting Boinc Manager. Pressing the X in Linux, closes Boinc Manager. This is by default.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the quick response. I was somewhat aware of this. But, having spent most of my adult life in the computer field(in windows), that linux(debian) is just a little weird for me. I like weird, but, weird just the same. Do you know anything about the synaptic package manager???

Depends on what exactly you want to know. ;-)

The one I use in Mepis is pretty straight-forward.
But perhaps that http://linux.about.com/od/ubuntu_doc/a/ubudg32t1.htm will help you along?
