Message 11288 - Posted: 26 Jun 2007, 16:18:20 UTC - in response to Message 11279.

Can you save more than 1 "per day restriction" in 5.10.8? That's one of my issues with this feature (in 5.10.7). I can't save more than 1 day. If I enter values for 2 or more days, only 1 day will actually save.

No. That is actually a bug. I reported it to the devs.

Also, the ability to restrict network usage for whole days would be nice.

I understand and before testing it last night and today I thought the second set of options was to restrict network on those specific days. I've also asked the devs if the day-of-the-week option could be made that way. You could set the global preference to use the network between 00:00-00:01 and then when the day-of-the-week option is repaired, put in the network usage per day.

Is there somewhere I, a lowly non-programmer, can put these items so the BOINC programmers will see them in an official capacity?

Yes, you can ask for this as an enhancement in BOINC Trac. It needs registration. When registered, make a new ticket.

Since you have contacted the devs about both the bug and enhancement, do I need to enter either one as a new tickt in BOINC Trac to make it "official?"

I only told them about the bugs, and both of those are now fixed.
What you are asking for is an enhancement, the option to disable the network at certain days, right?

Now we could both wait for 5.10.9 to come out and see if things have now been fixed so it works as you expected, or you could put in the request in Trac.

Message 11301 - Posted: 26 Jun 2007, 19:39:53 UTC - in response to Message 11300.

The fact is the code was changed with no warning, no version number change.

The code wasn't changed last night. 5.10.8 wasn't re-released.
The version still available from all the download points has a make date of 23 June 2007 on it.

The code is now changed and if you download the source code and compile it, you'll see it.

But I see this is starting to become a "Yes, it did" - "No, it didn't" 'fight'. I am not giving you that pleasure. Have fun.

It did happen with boinc_5.10.4_windows_intelx86.exe. I downloaded it twice. The first one was dated June 9, 16:35, the second one June 10, 09:03. Also their sizes differ: 5060k and 5064k.

Heather, I just built the latest BOINC version and I can tell you that you can now choose multiple days of the week. Also, the naming of the boxes and options has been changed. So wait for 5.10.9 (or 5.11.0) to show up. :)

Does this suggest there will be a 5.12 given the retraction of 5.10.7 for windows as recommended release?

Doubtful, unless the desktop disappearing bug of 5.10.x turn out to require a major step back to resolve. The next release will probably still be in the 5.10.x line.

Yes, I am taking it will be a 5.10.x release. When I compile it myself, it ends up as 5.11.0, but that's probably because I am still green on compiling with Visual Studio. ;-)

And also found that out already.... editing version.h

The head has already been tagged for the next round of testing so if you do not check out a specific version you will get 5.11.0. It is probably not a good idea to try this version. It is most likely in an inconsistant state right now, since testing was started then regressed to find a serious problem in the release version.

Don't take my fun away, John. Please. It took me well over 24 hours to figure this all out and to write the BOINC Wiki on it.
I promise I'll go back to the development version when I am bored. :)

By the way, I think I found a bug in BOINC while it was still compiled as 5.11.0
Crunching an ABC result while using the 5.10.8 BM, ABC's results would name themselves Forums and Help. Even when I had BOINC Manager 5.11.0 compiled and used it, they did that.

Then I changed version.h to say 5.10.10, recompiled, started using that and BM is now showing ABC results by their normal name. Go figure that out. ;-)

Dagorath: May I remind you that you have had 2 warnings already? Perhaps you think we're 'just moderators' here. I don't like your further taunting.

I am giving you a 24 hour time out.
