Thanks Kath, after than and then instructions, it was wearing thin :O

@Sekerob,

You always pull out that "wears thin" cliche when cornered. You were corrected on your use of then and than as politely as possible. In a very clumsy move you denied doing what you obviously do here and at every forum in which you post. Then you attempted to confuse the issue with an obvious lie. As if that were not foolish enough you challenged Studebaker Hawk to debate the issue and he accepted politely. Now you refuse the challenge and hurl insults at the one who tried to help you.

Your refusal to follow through on the challenge you issued is equivalent to admitting you are wrong on the then and than issue. The insults you hurled at Studebaker Hawk are just plain childish. You owe this forum an apology but I suspect you don't have the courage to apologise.

Guys,

This thread is totally off topic... Please cool it or take it to the lounge.

Anything else posted on the topic of challenges or grammar will be deleted.

Hi,

I just scanned this thread very quickly, and I didn't find any similar post, so sorry if this topic has already been addressed before. I set the BOINC Mgr for "Network activity suspended" and then clicked the "retry" button on the transfers page to try clearing a stuck UL.

Even though the net activity was suspended, the file uploaded immediately. Shouldn't it (BOINC Mgr) waited until I resumed the net connection? Is this by design or just a bug? Thanks for any info.

Regards,
Wander

If you click Retry or Update project or similar, it enables network again for 5 minutes. I'm tired of asking for that stupid "feature" to be removed.

It's really a useless feature that should be removed. I had the following problem with it: After all Workunits were crunched I set all projects on "no new tasks", enabled network communication, reported the WUs and disabled network again. Then I allowed the projects to fetch work again, and lots of WUs were downloaded, although network communication was DISABLED.

Yep, it's bi-directional ;>)

I agree. It's a little confusing because I was expecting BOINC to queue the upload request, keeping it on hold until I decided to reconnect to the net. Instead of simply overriding the "No network" command, why not just pop up a message box like "BOINC Mgr cannot comply with your request. Your current network access preferences is preventing it to access the project servers"? Then you can decide whether or not to let it access the net.

Regards,
Wander

Edit: thanks for the quick reply guys.

Or, more friendly: "Do you want BOINC to override your network access preferences for the next five minutes?" -- with a default Cancel button but also an Override button.

LOL... Sorry! It's been a long time since I programmed a "user-friendly" message :)
I got used to writing messages to operations techs in mainframes and Unix machines. Hard habit to break.

There's one other thing that might be worth mentioning: when it's uploading results, sometimes it just hangs there, no timeout even though the transfer is not going through (once I caught a 3h UL, which has been interrupted not even once). in these cases I'm forced to suspend net activity then resume back again and then the ULs goes right through. I just though you should know.

Wander
