I've been gone for a couple of days over the Thanksgiving Holiday and Einstein seems to have lapsed into a coma. Anyone else have problems with this particular project or should I begin to look for a problem on my end?

http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/ says:

Einstein@Home STATUS

At approximately 03:00 UTC November 24, a critical file server failed.
We hope to have this repaired and working by 07:00 UTC November 25.

This is our first project downtime in more than 160 days.

More information will be posted here as we have it.

If you are new to the project, please come back here in a day or two!

If you are already participating in Einstein@Home, there is no need for
any action on your part. Please just be patient.

Thank you,
Bruce Allen

The problem is with the file system, not hardware, as David Hammer tried mounting the disks in the backup server. That didn't work. So he's trying to figure out what to do next. I hope he gets paid triple for it. :-)

Of course, these things always happen in a weekend or on a holiday. The whole crew was at home for Thanksgiving.

In the mean time you (who read this) don't need to do anything.
And please, do not abort your work units trying to upload. If you only run Einstein, put BOINC's network availability to Suspended. Aborting the uploads will abort the whole work unit.

Thanks Jord, I was certain the problem was with their server when none of the six machines I have running Einstein@home would connect to any of their URLs. I was trying in a round about way to get some information on how long it might be down. I still have 4 machines with work and have set my network availability to suspended. Guess all those turkeys are extracting a bit of revenge. Thanks for the update.

The usual homepage has replaced the text message, and this G5 Mac has just reported a result that had been "Uploading" for hours, and downloaded new work, yet! So it appears they're back in business -- and earlier than scheduled.

Einstein@Home STATUS

[Last update: Thu Dec 7 19:42:12 UTC 2006]

Einstein@Home will be offline until further notice.

Two disks have failed in the main file server. This server uses a raid6
array so we cannot afford any to lose any more disks. The project will
remain offline until the raid array has time to rebuild.

More news will be posted here as it becomes available.

Thank you,
David Hammer

The raid array should finish rebuilding at about 15:00 UTC but the project
will be kept offline to upgrade some hardware in the fileserver that should
increase the reliability. We will try to have E@H running again by 22:00 UTC.

Einstein@Home will be offline until further notice.

The main file server has failed once again. At this time we do not know
how serious the problem is. The project may be down for a couple of days
until a temporary replacement fileserver can be put in place.

Einstein@Home STATUS

[Last update: Fri Jan 5 19:38:45 UTC 2007]

The replacement fileserver is having the same stability problems that the
old fileservers had. I am going to replace the raid controllers with some
from a different company and see if that helps.

Looks like it's back again, but we won't know for how long. Quickly upload your results and report them. :-)

Although their news is a year off...
January 7, 2006
The Einstein@Home project was down for the last few days because of the continuing fileserver problems. Another server has been put in place for the primary fileserver and we hope this temporary solution will be stable.

Only forums as far as I can see. The scheduler is still off line, so no uploads/downloads/reports.
