since the release of this new version i have noticed on two of my machine running it that it while it says 4 or 8 projects (different cpu cores on these machines) are running - the manager only shows one at a time actually progressing.. has anyone else noticed this?

thanks,

7.12 is running fine on one machine, but not so great on the laptop. It said during installation a reboot would be needed, but every time I reboot since installing, a pop up with a red X appears that says "A reboot is required in order for BOINC to run properly. Please reboot your computer and try again."
I've tried repairing, deleting and re-installing, even gone back to 7.10.2. Can't get rid of that pop up. Any ideas?

Go to the BOINC programs directory and remove RebootPending.txt, that'll fix that.

If you still need help with this, can you please post the contents of your cc_config.xml file, global_prefs.xml file and if it exists the global_prefs_override.xml file. All can be found in the data directory and can be opened with Notepad.

Could someone please explain to me why the BOINC software is updated soooooo often?

1:Software with the degree of complexity of BOINC will always have bugs. Priority for fixing these depends on how seriously the effect of them is. E.g. if a bug was causing data corruption of tasks it would get top priority.
2: From time to time users of both the client and server parts of BOINC decide that such and such a feature would be really useful. They then put in a request for this to be included in the next release.

This is of course true of much other software, e.g. all that comes from the MS stable. The difference there is that the end user typically doesn't see a change in the version number so despite numerous updates Windows10 has not moved on to Windows11. On the other hand for myself at least running the Windows version of BOINC under WINE, each time a new version comes out I manually install it. (The Linux version on the other hand updates as part of the automagical update system and when prompted I usually just click on the install updates button.)

Thank you.

It still seems like BOINC is updated much, much more often than other software.

I don't really mind. After all, it only takes a minute to upgrade. I was just curious.

Hi, in case anyone hasn't noticed, the Release Notes link on the Download page still goes to release notes for 7.10. Thanks for all you do.

Scribble previous message. Determined the issue. I had Windows Installer on Manual so no automatic updates would interrupt my computing.

Sorry about that.

Hello,
I installed 7.12.1 x64 w/ vbox to a new system today (Win 10 Pro) and Boinc Manager shows "disconnected" in the status bar. If I go to add a project, I receive error "BOINC Manager - Connection Error / The password you have provided is incorrect, please try again." I have the same version loaded on my Server 2016 machine with no issues. Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks

Nevermind, I figured it out. I have to navigate to File, Select Computer, and enter the local host's name.
