Which BOINC version you run (See Help->About BOINC in BOINC Manager). We'd just like the version number, please: for instance v7.8.2
started with an older version, but upgraded to 7.8.3(x64) and the problem persists
What your problem is exactly, write it out in as much detail as you can.
originally started with World Community Grid being unable to communicate, but the end result is all projects are responding to traffic from me with HTTP 401: unauthorized. any time i try to add a project, it fails with the message "The URL you supplied is not that of a BOINC-based project."
from wireshark:

doesnt matter what project i try the results are the same.

What you have done so far to try to remedy the problem.
tried resetting project, etc. uninstalled boinc and installed new version, tried adding config settings to only use http 1.0, tried using a new install folder name (boinc2)
edited proxy to bypass SSL checking for the target.
If applicable, the project(s) that you have the problems with and if they have multiple applications, which ones give you problems.
issues started while i was running world community grid, but now affects all projects i try to add.
Post the first 40 - 100 lines from your BOINC Event Log (CTRL+SHIFT+E), including it showing what your BOINC is doing, which project tasks it is running.

World Community Grid uses an HTTPS URL: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org, both for their project web site and for adding it through BOINC. So detach, Tools->Add Project->in project URL fill in https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org and continue your normal adding of the project.

We know that the URL in the add project wizard is wrong, it's already been fixed in the all_projects_list.xml file but apparently your BOINC hasn't gotten the new file yet that has the new URL.

that allowed me to re-add the project, however once added, the project itself updated to HTTP:// and is still failing to communicate.
I tried editing the all_projects_list.xml and the cc_config.xml, but its still just giving me the same error (communication deferred 24 hours, and wireshark shows the same error)

following the idea that https needed to be updated, i continued through the xml files and updated it everywhere for world community grid and now it appears to be working.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think that for World Community Grid you have to open an account first via their website, and only then attach to it through BOINC. That would be different from most other projects, where new account creation can be done as part of the same process as attaching to the project.

If you haven't already, create an account at https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/join.action#signup, and see if that gets you past the 'attach to project' problems.

Message 85995 - Posted: 24 Apr 2018, 21:33:59 UTC - in response to Message 85984.

the issue started after i had been a world community member for years.
you are prompted to login after the point which this was failing.
the issue was the conversion to https from http.

as a side note, the notices page also complains:
World Community Grid: Notice from BOINC
This project is using an old URL. When convenient, remove the project, then add http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/
4/24/2018 12:05:59 PM

so even the notices page is out of date for this project now.
