I have been away from BOINC for several years and have just been reminded that I should be donating cycles again. Unfortunately, I have forgotten my password and no longer have my old email address.

I do, however, still have one computer - that had not been fired up in years - crunching. In fact, that is what has now reminded me that I should be participating again.

Is there a way that I can send a password reset link to my new email address? Or alternatively, pull my old password from one of the XML files?

We're not a project website, so know that if you're asking about that. We don't have any credit here on the website, only post counts.
What you can do on the machine that's still running, is open BOINC Manager - if that's an option - and use the Project buttons to go to your account and change things there.

I think I used the authenticator key once when my email account was out of action and I couldn't remember my password.

I can't remember exactly how I got to a page that let me do that, other than through the forgot password link on the log-in page.

In your boinc folder, there should be a file that starts: account_seti (other boinc projects, etc) address.edu (org, etc). If you open that, near the top you'll find the authenticator key for your account. If you can find somewhere on the login page to copy and paste everything between the <> and </> authenticator tags to, it might get you in so you can make the changes you need.

edit: the bad news is that when I just tried, I couldn't find anywhere to put it. So hopefully, Ageless's way has worked, but If you'd like me to post your query on the project board for you, I'd be happy to.

Yes, at Seti that thing is gone, the way of the dodo. I'm not completely sure for the reasoning behind it, but since the login with authenticator isn't anymore, I didn't offer it. :)

Thank you for the info. I have opened the manager but the buttons bring me to a page that needs a password...

I am going to see if I can find the authentication key that has been discussed.

Success!

Thank you, guys.

I had subscribed to two projects. Einstein and Seti @ their respective homes.

Einstein@home asked me for the authenticator, but then did not work. Seti@home did not give me the option, as has been mentioned. However, on a whim I pasted the authenticator into the password field and it worked. I was then able to change my email, password, etc.

Won't be forgetting this again!

I get whims. They're not always that successful, so well done :)

Glad Ageless was able to spare you further time looking for something that had disappeared too. I did find this seti post under about 12 years of dust, which looked promising, because I know that wasn't the way I did it and I thought it might be worth a try, like a backdoor is when you're locked out at the front, but your whim has made it superfluous :)

edit: Hope you find a way to retrieve your account at Einstein. Again, I can ask there for you if you think it will help?

Thank you, Anniet!

So far, no luck with the Einstein account. I have been waiting for it to finish the current chunk to see if there is an update in the authenticator. However, there has been a transmission deferral. I will keep trying and let you know.
