Running Boinc 7.6.33 on a Mac Pro 5,1 12 core 3.33 Mhz
Just upgraded to OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan from Yosemite.
Never had a problem, but now, as soon as Boinc starts, the machine freezes, then reboots. This happens even if I suspend tasks immediately after launch. If I do not launch Boinc, the machine purrs like a kitten.
For what it's worth, I WAS running SETI@home, Rosseta & Einstein. I never let the machine sleep.

And curiously, an annoying stuttering (which I thought was hardware related) has gone away now that I'm not running BOINC.

I had a chat with the BOINC developer for the Mac. He recommends at least that you download a fresh copy of the installer and reinstall BOINC, just in the off chance that you had a corrupt copy.

Other than that, have you checked your temperatures?
You can check that with iStat Pro, a free tool. If they seem high when under load, it's probably time to remove the dust bunnies from the computer.

Thank you ror your response.
When I put these twelve cores under load with a task, the temps rise immediately. I monitor them carefully and use an aftermarket fan control program. The inside of the machine is clean as a whistle.
As I said in my post, these problems occur even if I immediately suspend tasks on BOINC launch. So it is not related to load. If I do not launch BOINC, I have no problems. And the problem began only after I upgraded to El Capitan.
I will try a fresh download, and see if the behavior reoccurs.
Where should I look in the logs for clues??

BOINC won't show in the logs why your computer froze, so if it's some place it would be in the general logs of your operating system.
Perhaps that the answer for this person helps you on the way?
