My BOINC manager loads then shows "disconnected" whenever I boot up my computer or switch to another users profile and then back to mine again. If I exit the BOINC program and then start it again it loads fine. What I'm thinking is that it needs to have a short delay before it tries to connect so that my firewall has time to load the exceptions that let BOINC run. Is there a way to set a short delay in? Anybody else have this problem??

Also I saw on a thread that other people are having the issue of two clients running at the same time, I also have that issue. I'm using the most current version of Boinc v5.4.11 on a Dell P4 with XP OS

If you want to switch user profiles without getting into problems with BOINC, install BOINC as a service. That way it will always run, no matter who is logged in.

By using any of the other installs, you get into problems, as not all user profiles have BOINC installed. Or have rights to run it. Or have read/write rights to the BOINC directory/subdirectories.

By installing it as a service, you can also exit Boinc Manager without interrupting the crunching.

Two BOINC clients at the same time isn't possible. BOINC checks upon startup if a version of itself is running already and if so, will pop up a warning. You can however open as many Boinc Manager windows (the GUI) as you want. This is done so you can control BOINC on multiple computers from one computer, if needed to.

What kind of firewall do you have?
Did you set boinc.exe, boincmgr.exe and boinc.scr to be allowed through your firewall on TCP port 31416? If you did, you shouldn't have any further problems.

I had thought about switching to running my client as a service already, but wanted to see if anybody had any other ideas/comments first.

As far as my statement that I had two clients running I meant I had two TASKS running at the same time. You are correct in that I don't have two instances of BOINC running, However I DO always have two WU's running at the same time. In another thread, another user states the same thing and also says that they are only recieving credit for one WU:

I have not noticed that in my case. I do believe I am getting credit for both when they finish, but am not 100% sure on this yet.

As far as the firewall, I use windows XP's firewall as well as my d-link routers own firewall. I did have boincmgr.exe in my exception list, and I have now added boinc.exe and opened port 31416. I could not find boinc.scr so it was not added. (If that's for the screensaver, I don't use it anyways)

If you have a hyperthreading capable CPU (Pentium 4's, Xeon's etc.) or have more than one CPU, you can run two results at the same time. That's quite normal.
