Hi, I need to know if BOINC client needs X running to use GPU for calculus.

This depends on the Driver. For ATI cards it is necessary that someone is logged into an X session in order to use the GPU for computing. For Nvidia cards this is not the case AFAIK. But there are other people around that know more about this.
