I need to disable (not suspend) GPU computing on a specific PC. I don't want Boinc downloading any GPU tasks and having them just sit there.
The only post I've been able to find about this was from 2012, that said you could do this, but didn't say how.
I want GPU computing on my other PC, just not this one.
How to do that?

My amateurish answer...

You could try this: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration

Find this:
If 1, don't use GPUs even if they're present.

Search for the Boinc data directory on that specific computer. There is cc_config.xml or create it if it doesn't exist.

That file has the "Options" section. Put there that line: <no_gpus>1</no_gpus>
Save and exit. Restart Boinc.

You might be able to do it by going to the project website (for example https://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/index.php) and then find the link "Your account" and login.

There are "Preferences" and the link "Preferences for this project", for example Einstein@home preferences. Click it and you will find a way to create a few different "locations"... and you'll be able to set different preferences for those different locations. Choose a comfortable location which you want to dedicate for that single non-GPU computer and for that location uncheck the "use xxx GPU" boxes. And save.

Then you can visit again the "Your account" page and there is "Computers on this account"... and click "view". Now you'll see a list of your computers. Click "details" of a computer and you'll see detailed info... and there is also the line "Location". You can set a location for that computer. Choose the same location for which you saved the do-not-use-GPU settings just a minute earlier.

Restart the boinc client on that one computer and hit the update button for that project. Now that host shouldn't download any more GPU tasks for THAT project.

If you had that host downloading GPU tasks from multiple projects then this isn't propably the easieast way to disable GPU usage.

Thank you! I forgot about the 'multiple location' options in Seti.

I was looking for cc_config.xml before and did not find it. Figured it was for an older release and didn't use it any more. I'll try creating it and see how that works.

Thanks again!
